How Google/Firefox Geolocation API works

Today I found that Google Maps could find almost exactly where I am (missed by one block, about 100 meters). I was quite surprised and spooked by this feature, and wanted to understand how it works.

Currently, both Google Chrome (with Google Gears) and Mozilla Firefox 3.5 support geolocation API.

Ubuntu + sysklogd + remote logging = slow

I have a Ubuntu server 8.04 machine that used to have sysklogd configured to work as remote logging server. Some operations on that machine felt very slow, with ssh login taking too much time, as well as apache taking too long while delivering pages.

Fortunately, today I found the reason why it was slow, and how to "solve" it.

An then a Maxtor HD fails after 3 months of use

After 122 days and 7 hours of use, my Maxtor 500GB hard drive stopped working. I should have had a second hard disk as backup...

People, DON'T EVER TRUST ONLY ONE HARD DISK, please have multiple hard disks as backup, not only one!
