The top 10 everyday occurrences that frustrate my hat off
Friday, September 4, 2009 9:19:30 AM
If you're anything like me, you probably get annoyed a lot at irritating things that happen in your day. If you're also anything like me, you're probably somewhat softly spoken, and don't voice your irritation when such occurrences transpire. However, there often comes a point when I just have to vent my frustrations in order to feel better. Hopefully, many of you will be able to empathise with my list of top 10 everyday things that frustrate my hat off – even when I'm not wearing a hat.
- Waking up and thinking it’s Saturday when it's actually Monday.
You wake up in the morning, groggy and tired, and then a tiny beacon of hope hangs over your weary head. “Saturday?!” you ask yourself, and experience several moments of pure, unadulterated joy at the prospect of a sleep-in before actually waking up and realising yesterday was Sunday.
- Accidentally listening to an awfully bad song on the radio first thing in the morning, and thus having it in your head the rest of the day.
What also doesn't help is the fact that after typing that point for my list, I was reminded of the dreadful Nickelback song I heard on the radio this morning, and now I have it in my head again. I suffer for my art, I tell you.
- Doing a really long maths problem and getting it wrong. Completely wrong. So far from the right answer that it's not funny.
You know the type – one of those problems that involves a ridiculous amount of time-consuming equations in order to arrive at such a disproportionately unspectacular solution that you wonder why it was worth the effort. And then you find out that you got the answer wrong. Brilliant.
- When you go the bathroom in the morning and you've cupped your hands with water to wash your face, but since you're so groggy, the water trickles up your arm and feels really uncomfortable in your flannelette sleeve because it doesn't dry instantaneously.
It gets worse when you start violently shaking your arm in frustration in an effort to get the water out, causing your siblings to wonder what on earth is wrong with you.
...What, does this really only happen to me?
- Thinking of an incredibly witty comeback to an argument a good half-hour after it has ended.
And all you can do is sigh in frustration, because nobody will understand.
(Also known as "l'esprit de l'escalier")
- How you sometimes aren't allowed to name a file using the characters \ / * ? " < > and |.
It's exasperating how some programs will let you at times when it doesn't really matter, but whenever you actually really need to use the characters in a file name, it's with a program that won't allow it. Curses upon you, file-naming conventions! Curses!
- When you set your alarm earlier than usual, so you can get up and have a shower in the morning, but instead of getting up when the alarm goes off, you end up going back to sleep, DREAMING that you got up and are having a shower, then you wake up an hour later and realise you didn't actually do that stuff, yell a few expletives, rush your shower, and run late for school/work with unintentionally 1980's-inspired hair.
Self-explanatory.
- Needing to get somewhere very quickly, but your path is blocked by the people walking slowly in front of you, who could be overtaken by a snail travelling through some spilt honey.
Seriously. It's almost as if they do it on purpose. And has anyone noticed how this almost only ever happens when you really need to get to a place in a hurry? Curses upon Murphy's law! CURSES!
- Running out of shampoo, soap and/or a towel, and not realising until you are in the shower with the water running.
What makes this situation worse is if you have to stealthily sneak around the house – due to nakedness – in order to locate said soap/shampoo/towel, dripping everywhere, steadily becoming more and more cold, and needing to furtively leap behind doorways/pot plants if someone else enters the vicinity.
- When something really amazing/ironic happens, but you are the only one to see it and/or understand it.
In my opinion, the most frustrating thing possible. Whether it be an in-joke or an ironic/coincidental reference to something you know, you're either the only person in the room or the only one to understand just how truly amazing or hilarious it is. You cannot share the awesomeness of this situation with anyone, so the best you can do is gape and sputter like an asthmatic fish.
Hope you enjoyed the article, and if you really like it, please favourite it!
Winning this contest would be a dream come true.

Is zero any less of a number, just because it's less of a number?

Every sunset gives us,
One day less to live!
But every sunrise give us,
One day more to hope!
So, hope for the best.
Good Day & Good Luck!
And Good Morning

You are a humorous thinker. It seems like too serious but to me it's very funny top ten and really true.

I love Futurama! It's definitely my favourite cartoon, much better than The Simpsons in my opinion (at least any Simpsons episode that is not in Seasons 3 - 9). Bender, well, what can you say? He's one of those characters that you can love and hate at the same time. His lack of morals is infuriating, but it provides for some epic lulz, so I'm a fan, haha.

I loved your article! I could relate to every single one of those 10 things. No.7 with the water trickling down your flannelette sleeve was particularly funny! My sister walked in on me doing the same thing!
