Angeliki-Which video??? My arms? Thanks. :lol: I'm not terribly satisfied with them, so I've gone back to advanced pilates & have kicked up the intensity on my cardio workouts. We'll see what happens...

I put this post up because my Opera blog is about to become the blog that I link to from CultureSurfer, meaning there will no longer be a separate CultureSurfer blog on the site. Yup, it's time for another re-design. :rolleyes:

Yea, the graffiti artist are super talented & really sweet. I wish I could have spent more time with them.

Anyone else want to comment? We've redesigned the homepage of CultureSurfer & are taking input before changing the other pages.

Amir-Which hot designer girl? :lol:

How to scroll back to the beginning of the videos? That's an issue with the video player & it should work. Not sure what to tell you about that. HOW are you able to see the videos with dialup? I didn't think that was possible. :yikes:

Angeliki, you can talk about my arms as much as you want. Glad you like the site. :yes:

How does everyone feel about the grey background & the grey on the pull-down menues. Dax thinks it's all a bit dark. Do you miss the clouds on the background or not?

By CultureSurfer, # 17. June 2008, 23:46:57

avatar
not at all!
Dax is very knowledgeable, no doubt about it.

As a visitor from Opera to CultureSurfer, I like to know I am in a different site,
I like the serious side of it,
and the videos and interviews or pictures usually are colorful enough so the contrast is very pleasing to the eye.
Having too much light around takes away the attention from the ads.I am always speaking bout how I feel about the new design.
I am sure you will hear about it from more visitors.See how the majority feels about it :up:

By ellinidata, # 17. June 2008, 23:57:59

avatar
Angeliki, we were trying to do EXACTLY what you are describing-keep the focus on the video player & the ads by keeping the rest of the site in blacks & grays. Thanks for the input & it's great to get different opinions.

By CultureSurfer, # 18. June 2008, 00:06:39

avatar
:up:

It is just my opinion in a field that I am not an expect,
I am just the visitor....

The one that was designing your site :whistle:

I just saw 5 sec`s of the videos :down:

PS Gray on back ground helps the eye to defy the other colors on the foreground so it`s good :up:

By night wolf, # 18. June 2008, 23:36:43

Naomi, what kind of comments do you want/need about "culturesurfer.com"?

Just a little hint: it is not a smart move to link all the images in the page like:
"http://culturesurfer.com/ads%20for%20index%20page/CLOUDBAnner.jpg".
The above is the clouds in the page head.

That way you get 2 words that are targeted by anti-ads filters, with rules like "*/ads%20*" and "/*banner.*" and this could result in ALL those objects removed from the page.

I don't see the point in positioning even "neutral" images like the page background in a directory named "ads for index page". And/or calling "banner" something that isn't a banner actually.

BTW the page code is deprecated, meaning it is written in 90s good old HTML. Like:
<td align="center" valign="bottom">
<font color="#000000" size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">hello</font>
</td>
It works because browsers have got backwards compatibility but it would be best practice to use modern HTML instead, that has got some technical advantages. Something like:
<style>
td#title {text-align:center;
vertical-align:bottom;
color:#000000;
font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
font-size:12px;}
</style>
<td id="title">hello</td>
Besides the whole page could be designed to be table-less istead. You can find a working example here on my blog: http://my.opera.com/LorenzoCelsi/blog/2007/12/13/box-model-tableless-page-layout
Of course you can adapt it to your needs.

The general look and feel of the site is unprofessional but I guess you already know it.

Question, do you get revenues from the ads?

By LorenzoCelsi, # 21. June 2008, 05:28:39

avatar
Thanks!!!

Lorenzo- Thanks for the input. My husband and I have created and designed this site with NO experience in creating a site. We are 100% self-taught. This is why the site looks so archaic to someone like you who designs sites for a living. We do not write the code on the site. Rather, the code is generated by a current version of a program called Dreamweaver. Therefore, I am mystified as to why you consider the code so outdated?

That being said, I do understand and will take into consideration some of your comments. Until we have a budget to hire a professional, the site will have to remain as is. :smile:

No, I have not generated much ad revenue yet.

By CultureSurfer, # 22. June 2008, 14:56:11

avatar
I am self-taught too. :smile:

All the things I've written are just technical details, the site isn't that bad actually and I saw much worse stuff made by so-called "professionals".
If the current site fits your needs then there isn't any reason to change.

Anyway, in case you need some help, feel free to ask me :smile:

By LorenzoCelsi, # 22. June 2008, 15:06:14

avatar
Thanks, Lorenzo.

Your comment reminded me that since we are doing a re-design, I needed to have my program "clean up" the html. It is much cleaner now.

By CultureSurfer, # 22. June 2008, 15:31:39

Your program?

@ Lorenzo
Dreamweaver checks for code errors.

@ Angeliki
Yes, you've helped a lot. I apologize again for not being around more; you cannot imagine how hard Jeff & I are working on CultureSurfer, not only the site, but the entire business. So much for his summer vacation from teaching. :eyes:

massages after swimming in the sea in a Caribbean island, wine while looking the Mediterranean sun going down,
a concert under the lights of Acropolis,
an amazing scuba diving in Barbados,
or just reading your favorite book on your crispy white bed sheets while Delia sleeps on you lap..
oh stop me you know what I mean.......

LOL
I worked about 10 hours today, have to do more work on the site, & am filming two interviews tomorrow. Things should slow down on Wednesday.

(why your hair is not down ?? :D)

By ellinidata, # 11. July 2008, 21:59:58

avatar
Thank you!

About the hair: St. Louis is humid like you cannot imagine in the summer. And hot! So there are times when I just cannot stand to have my hair down and I am afraid of having it frizz like there is no tomorrow. So, sorry, but you'll have to put up with the hair being up from time to time.
awww p:

By CultureSurfer, # 11. July 2008, 22:07:49

avatar
easy to keep them from frizz...have some fabric softener (yes the laundry one) and spray after dilute 1 cup fabric softener to 2 cup of water..it will last you for ever and it is so much better than what experts sell...
I use it now days too, (in 6 months my hair grew more than 10 inches!)..

you still look good but with the hair down you look great!! :heart:

By ellinidata, # 11. July 2008, 22:16:00

avatar
Yuck! Really? :yikes:

By CultureSurfer, # 12. July 2008, 02:58:41

avatar
:lol:
I am glad that even after almost 1/2 a year together,
I can still grab your attention !
yes ,
it is true,
it contains less chemicals that will harm your hair from the anti-frizz products ..
:heart:

p.s. my hair now is in the middle of my back.. still 6lb to loose !! :smile:
feeling great , looking OK too...
with 3 floors of stairs in Pa I will (I hope ) go to 120lb.

By ellinidata, # 12. July 2008, 03:19:19

avatar
Yea, long hair is beautiful. Just a major pain in the summer. I think about cutting it every summer but then my hair guy reminds me that I will regret it when the weather cools off.

I'll try the fabric softener trick. Very strange.

I'm fighting weight like crazy, just need to lose exactly what you want to lose & nothing is working. I've added a little weight lifting to the treadmill & pilates to see if that helps.

"I'm fighting weight like crazy, just need to lose exactly what you want to lose & nothing is working. I've added a little weight lifting to the treadmill & pilates to see if that helps."

all women over 35 do!! :frown:
it will help to built mushes..no weight loss but a great way to look great!

I find a strong supplement and a refrigerator full of veggies only it is the solution!

By ellinidata, # 12. July 2008, 16:56:01

avatar
What's the supplement?

By CultureSurfer, # 13. July 2008, 01:28:36

avatar
I am not an expert but I guess the only way to lose weight is to eat less. It is not a matter of temporary diet or fitness program, because you regain weight as soon as you stop. It is more about changing everyday habits. In my case I eat (often junk food) when I am sad or bored.

By LorenzoCelsi, # 13. July 2008, 06:29:36

avatar
emotional eaters usually eat more when their mood changes..
since I do not eat red meat and I haven't had white bread in years,
I thought I am doing things right.
Still the last 5 pounds never left me.
For a 5.6" frame and over 40 my concern was not so much about the looks (that with a good skin ans light make up are manageable),
but my health ..that's was and still is my priority.

The last three months I buy food and I separate it in two groups.
The top selves for the kids,
and the two lower for myself in the refrigerator.
I never touch food that "doesn't belong to me" .
I consider it cheating and stealing :lol:
funny as it sounds it works.
An apple with honey will be a snack.
Low fat Yogurt with almonds will be bkfst.
I do not even crave food that I shouldn't eat.
A green salad with grilled chicken or tuna will finish the days meals. I feel,
look wonderful and I am even having a very positive attitude about life :happy:

P.S. Naomi for a supplement,
any good multi vitamin will do!
your pharmacist will know the best for you :heart:
(I use a multi that is Chinese ,a little expensive but it is worth it :smile: )
