It's CultureSurfer.com's First Birthday

, , ,

Wow. I can't believe I've made it to the first year point. It feels like it's been more like 3 years of work. Just take a look at the evolution of the site:

Thanks, everyone!

Keep checking the site often. Massive re-design is still underway. When will it end? I'll let you know when I know.

rfhurley 6. September 2008, 18:02

Indeed. CultureSurfer.com has been under "redesign" pretty much continuously since I first started following it.

Are you sure this isn't symptomatic of OCD?

i need new spectacles. Homer: Doh!

CultureSurfer 7. September 2008, 14:59

@ Rfhurley God, no! I HATE doing the re-designs. They are a total pain. It's just this has been a major learning curve since I knew NOTHING, had no experience at all in creating a site when I started a year ago. I think I'll know once it's where it needs to be. This will probably not happen until a professional web design person gets ahold of the site which won't happen until funding shows up.

@ Amir. Thanks.

edwardpiercy 7. September 2008, 18:07

:drunk: Congrats!!! :hat:

Ooops, didn't mean to throw in that "drunk" smilie. --

Belated birthday wishes.

CultureSurfer 8. September 2008, 17:27

Thanks, all!

noah counte 8. September 2008, 18:08

Late to the party - as usual. Bon Anniversaire!

CultureSurfer 8. September 2008, 18:13

Merci!

No problem. I'm getting notifications for your posts (late getting there due to a ton of filming & the site redesign)but not getting notifications for Angeliki & I am guessing others as well. I feel like I've been excommunicated.

noah counte 8. September 2008, 18:19

lol
I am sure the peace and quiet is welcome  I haven't been too prolific, so you didn't miss much here - and aren't getting too many notifications. I had my ire up over the RNC, but I've tried to take some deep breaths.

CultureSurfer 8. September 2008, 18:51

I FINALLY heard someone, Thomas Friedman on NPR's "Talk of the Nation" ask (referring to the Republicans) "What planet are these people on?"

The segment was about how we are continuing (by choice of people who are poised to get very rich) to be dependent on foreign oil.
http://www.npr.org/templates/rundowns/rundown.php?prgId=5

We watched "Who Killed the Electric Car" last night & Friedman made some comments that were made in the movie.

A movie I recommend to everyone:

I just can't believe what's going down in this country. I feel :yuck:.

noah counte 8. September 2008, 19:04

Is that about the EV1, or whatever it was called? All the celebs had one, and suddenly it was like they never existed?

CultureSurfer 8. September 2008, 19:59

Yup, and even the celebs (Mel Gibson looks like the Unibomber in the film) had to give the cars back. Poor Ed Begely looked like he was going to cry.

They crushed every single one, except one that's in a museum. Total. Utter. Insanity.

noah counte 8. September 2008, 20:14

Boooooo!

manjari 9. September 2008, 07:55

Congratulations.

CultureSurfer 9. September 2008, 12:41

@Matt It's pretty painful to watch what they did to those cars.

@Manjari Thanks!

noah counte 9. September 2008, 13:14

And GM's response was (after they pretended that the cars never existed) that there was no market, no enthusiasm, and that the film makers were lunatic fringe elements.

rfhurley 9. September 2008, 19:28

Thomas Friedman on NPR's "Talk of the Nation" ask (referring to the Republicans) "What planet are these people on?"

The people that will vote for this ticket generally reside between the Hudson River & the Caldicutt Tunnel in the Bay Area. There are lots of people who admire her "guts" (to use a favorite term of Stephen Colbert).

In other words...

"There heeerrre..."

(insert your choice of creepy music here)

noah counte 9. September 2008, 19:42

I think a lot of people will admire her less, as time goes on. She's neither as gutsy nor as honest as she has been made out to be, and we're going to learn about some of that in the next 50 days or so.

Phantom2 10. September 2008, 07:25

Yes indeed we will....but we must be careful what we believe...

http://www.newsweek.com/id/157986

I for one are to old to be lead around the my ear.
(at least the one I haven't ruined yet)

CultureSurfer 10. September 2008, 17:38

Matt, I so hope you are right. It's like half of the country has gotten into some really bad Kool-Aid. Again!

I think it's time for Loku to write a poem about "sheeple."

CultureSurfer 10. September 2008, 17:39

P2, nice to see you. :D

CultureSurfer 10. September 2008, 17:46

For those Obama fans out there, I've been asked to spread the word:
http://my.opera.com/Obama_Fans/blog/

rfhurley 10. September 2008, 19:02

They're going to keep her away from the press for the duration of the campaign, unless it's for Fox News-style "fluff" pieces.

noah counte 10. September 2008, 20:13

I think you're right. I hope that makes people question WHY.

CultureSurfer 10. September 2008, 23:10

Nah, they're not that smart.

noah counte 11. September 2008, 00:46

They are us :frown:

rfhurley 11. September 2008, 00:50

Nah, they're not that smart.

um... they aren't???

This exact strategy made Arnold Schwarzenegger governor of California.

lokutus_prime 11. September 2008, 12:24

"I think it's time for Loku to write a poem about "sheeple."

Naomi ...funny you should say that :D

About twelve years ago I wrote a poem about election's per se.

I admit I had the neo-cons here in mind (our "tories", british cousins to the Republican party) but the poem is broad in its messge and will stand the test of time.

While I'm thinking about what I will compose for the "sheeple" theme (yes, you have inspired me with that little aside) I will be happy to give you a link to the other poem, or reproduce it here if you wish.

CultureSurfer 11. September 2008, 17:35

Loku, yes, we need a good political poem right here.

Let me known when you get the "sheeple" poem done. Maybe Leah could do some funny drawings for that one. Wondering what a "sheeple" would look like.
