Suffering from allergies like never before? You can thank global warming.

, , ,

This summer has wreaked havoc on my immune system. St. Louis is known to be one of the (if not THE) worst cities in the US for allergens, but I have never suffered like this before. So I decided to do a little research & this is what I found:

"...Global warming and increased atmospheric carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuels appear to supercharge the growth of ragweed. And not only does ragweed grow larger and produce more pollen, its pollen is more allergenic, studies show.

People allergic to ragweed aren't the only ones who'll be sniffling more. Studies show that increased CO2 levels increase the level of tree pollen, a common source of allergies in springtime. There's evidence that warmer temperatures in Alaska have led to increases in yellow-jacket stings, bad news for people with bee-sting allergies. Not even your basement will be safe: fungal spores also proliferate in warmer temperatures and thrive when carbon-dioxide levels rise...."

Jeez.

Just curious, do those medical masks help any with that type of thing?

Or perhaps one of those suits like they wore in Outbreak.

Angeliki 28. August 2008, 00:53

"I've thought about trying the medical mask but don't want to freak people out."

Just tell people that it's "a Japanese thing" and that, as it happens, you are "1/36 Japanese."

They will just look at you and nod their heads, ashamed of themselves for thinking the mask was weird.

Naomi 28. August 2008, 13:15

No, I saw it & went 2 the site but didn't have time to make one. I will soon.

I've redesigned CultureSurfer. Again. :yikes:

Naomi 28. August 2008, 13:16

Hey, Naomi is a Japanese name, so it might work.

night wolf 28. August 2008, 13:17

Naomi 28. August 2008, 13:36

Well, since I'm not really Japanese, I'm all for being in an allergy-free cell with no access to my web site. p:

Thanks, wickedlizard.

Edward Piercy 28. August 2008, 13:40

Allergy free cell?

Just what kind of Imaginary Prison World are you living in?

Ah, you Japanese are just too weird for me...I'm outta here.

Jill 28. August 2008, 14:08

Hey girly girl? How you doing?

Interesting article. This is the first year I have suffered with allergies. Never had 'a one' before.
Cough every morning and can't go outside in the mornings without a mask.

What's up with this????:yikes:

Enjoy your day, my friend!!!

Naomi 28. August 2008, 14:59

Jillee-
Are you seeing other people wearing masks?

One thing that is helping is I am taking local honey. It MUST be local wild-flower honey. It takes a little while but is helping. That, plus homeopathy, acupuncture, antihistamines, lots of water, staying inside as much as humanly possible.

What gets me are the headaches & the affect on my nervous system. A few days have simply "disappeared" this summer.

Hope you start feeling better.

Angeliki 28. August 2008, 16:15

Naomi asks:
"
Are you seeing other people wearing masks? "

Michael Jackson does wear a mask :D

I like masks on other occasions but there is no relation to allergies! :D

just kidding!

Naomi,
free yourself from allergies by eating more chocolate!

choco body soul

Naomi 28. August 2008, 16:53

If chocolate cured allergies, I'd be the healthiest person on the planet. If only...

Angeliki 28. August 2008, 17:02

Naomi 28. August 2008, 17:18

kisses to Delia and Jeff

Naomi 28. August 2008, 17:35

Will give the requested kisses.

Speaking of which, did Hershey's give out free chocolate?

We toured Lindt chocolate in Zurich. The tour sucked but we mainly went for the free box of chocolates. :chef:

Angeliki 28. August 2008, 17:46

when chocolates are involved then any Tour is worth it!

I hope I hear more about the Zurich Tour ...

At Herseys you are able to create your own shape of chocolate and you can pay for as many LB of chocolate you wish!
my shapes are not to be displayed in public  but we did have fun FUN FUN !!!
my girlfriend Anna came over too and btwn the two of us we did cover all our faces with chocolate. Our male companions had to to the cleaning :D

Naomi 28. August 2008, 18:23

I can only imagine the chocolate shapes you made, only too well.

I don't remember much about the Lindt Chocolate tour, just that we were very impatient to get our box of chocolate at the end. Lindt chocolate is the only milk chocolate I like.

Edward Piercy 28. August 2008, 18:27

If blood were made of chocolate, women would be vampires. penguin

Naomi 28. August 2008, 18:36

Naomi 29. August 2008, 13:17

The problem is that I would end up eating the soap & I haven't had soap in my mouth since my parents punished me as a little kid.

Site redesign under way...

Dr. John v. Kampen 29. August 2008, 14:23

I'll have a look shortly! BTW no news means good news for me, so I believe your other plans are progressing well?

Angeliki 29. August 2008, 16:18

Naomi 29. August 2008, 16:23

Actually, I'm finding that I am able to do most of what I keep thinking I need to pay people to do. So that means I can't really move ahead with my business plan as the picture keeps changing.

I'm waiting for my Knight mentor to contact me so I can get my application together. They don't seem to be in a hurry.

Virtually no money coming in at this point, the views are down, & it's getting very discouraging.

The site will be one year old on Monday, by the way.

Thanks for asking. :D

Dr. John v. Kampen 29. August 2008, 20:16

Precisely. You shouldn't get discouraged at this moment, but cling on to your dream, your idea and your creation, Naomi. You have come really far, I saw your very well done new website. Very good and I am -may I- proud of you to have truly achieved this and pulled through. Don't get discouraged or depressed. But it always takes a "roll out time", often more than a year. Your mentor will pop up and guide you - so don't get to hasty/zealous/'nerviosa' they call it here. Do what Ellinidata writes: take a chocobath, let Jeff have his bite... and reduce the usage of shower gels and perfumed soaps, use clear water to shower yourself and get rid of the pickles, allergies, etc. Your nervous, stay cool now! And please forget that climate change, it did that for millions of years... We're heading for a new Ice Age instead. Keep it cool for now.

Naomi 30. August 2008, 12:42

Thanks, John.

brad 30. August 2008, 16:54

Hello Culture Surfer.

That's a pretty interesting blog post.

I'm not surprised to read that trees etc tend to produce more pollen under these conditions. Seems alike a natural response to an imbalance.

Naomi 30. August 2008, 17:04

Yup, the planet gets hotter, more stuff grows, so more allergens.

On another note, here is an interesting commentary on why Mccain picked an unknown woman for his running mate. (I'm still in shock.:yikes:)
