Discovery is Seeing What Everyone Else Has Seen

And Thinking What Nobody Else Has Thought

Cuppa Hot Chocca

A group of graduates, well established in their careers, were talking at a reunion and decided to go visit their old university professor, now retired. During their visit, the conversation turned to complaints about stress in their work and lives. Offering his guests hot chocolate, the professor went into the kitchen and returned with a large pot of hot chocolate and an assortment of cups -- porcelain, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite -- telling them to help themselves to the hot chocolate.

When they all had a cup of hot chocolate in hand, the professor said: "Notice that all the nice looking expensive cups were taken first, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress".

"The cup that you're drinking from adds nothing to the quality of the hot chocolate. In most cases it is just more expensive, and in some cases even hides what we drink. What all of you really wanted was hot chocolate, not the cup. But you consciously went for the best cups...and then you began eyeing each others cups".

"Now consider this: Life is the hot chocolate. Your job, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain life. The cup you have does not define, nor change the quality of life you have. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy that which matters most".

question, can i put this in my site? i will give you the credit of course.

Valius 26. July 2008, 19:25

This is an excellent description of human nature. As much as I have tried to understand it, I have fallen short. This gives me a clue as to why my daughter always included her strange (to me) comment at the end of her introduction of me to her colleagues and friends as "He's different".

It's been more than 20 years since I first noticed her remark and to date I have never received an explanation. I think I'm on the right track by knowing that I have always marched to my own band and am in no way concerned with the actions or habits of my fellow man.

I am always the first to be there for someone in need but this does not change my mind that people are strange!

STRANGE = UNIQUE

Valius 29. July 2008, 02:06

DeeDee 31. July 2008, 19:14

we are all in ny, the baby is walking and doing much better. i'm no longer in pain (got my tooth out) going to move again, but keeping this address for a while. what kind of an update?

Valius 1. August 2008, 13:29

What kind of update? That's obvious. How's the weather...Who's going to win the election...When are we getting out of Iraq so we can afford to feed the poor (I'm hungry)...and has California drooped into the ocean yet?????

DeeDee 1. August 2008, 23:37

how would cali go over the deep end?

DeeDee 1. August 2008, 23:39

i see

Valius 3. August 2008, 07:44

OK so only 1/2 would sink into the ocean!

DeeDee 3. August 2008, 18:12

BUT STILL! how many people would lose their homes? that's a lot!

Valius 3. August 2008, 21:08

Not as many as you might think...The fires have already destroyed 43 square miles of California and over 200,000 have lost their homes already. So that leaves less to lose what they no longer have.

I know that California has the highest population of the states but with the next couple of big earthquakes maybe many will move to N.Y. State.

glue,

It's crackers to slip a rozzer the dropsy in snide. However, you have been declared the winner. Which all means by missing the moment. you have been elevated to grand possessor!

Good luck and remember to destroy this message unless it self destructs in one week.
