Image 3: png file

I've been working with Inkscape again, and finally have the information I need. I really wanted a unique, "created by me" image for my header, but unlike MSPaint where one can save graphics in opaque mode, Inkscape wouldn't let me save the file without that glaring white background. SO! Back to reading manuals, going online, and searching until I found this: In Inkscape, if you want to create a png file that looks like it's a 3D svg file, you have to use "File/Export Bitmap." So I did - and even remembered to CTRL+A/Group everything so I wouldn't lose the text this time. Now I have a new header. bigsmile Mission 1 accomplished! Now it's on to learn CSS. That post I've got as a sticky about learning CSS is going to be set to private until I get it figured out.

Good morning, Angeliki. smile Thank you, and you're welcome! bigsmile I'm going to need my rain slicker today - Thunderstorms are on the horizon. :umbrella:

The second image loads way slower and has a strange line moving up for quite a while, probably the fluff.
Using opera 10.10 on osx.
I like svg images for their scalability I'm not sure whther inkscape supports transparency or not.
What I do know is that drawing vector graphics is a bit of a shock at first lol

DeniseDBabbit Thursday, March 18, 2010 9:03:32 AM

Thanks Danny. I just downloaded opera 10.10. I may have to edit the post because the page is skipping/dragging when I scroll down. The only thing I can think of is that it must be the regular Inkscape svg that's doing it. The problem with drawing vector graphics with Inkscape - or any other program I suppose, is that the manuals only give you a glimpse of how to do those amazing 3D images. I mean, really - Just how many frogs do you have to layer until you get one that looks like it would hop right off the page! lol

daxonmacs Thursday, March 18, 2010 12:23:33 PM

On osx I use Illustrator, which has a more intuitive feel, in my opinion.
It takes quite some time to make awesome graphics though, I have yet to finish my first one jester

DeniseDBabbit Thursday, March 18, 2010 12:43:29 PM

How long ago did you start working on it? The surfboard on this blog was my first 3D attempt. I figured I'd start small. lol Now I need to polish it up. wizard

daxonmacs Thursday, March 18, 2010 12:45:30 PM

I'm never happy with the result sad
Perhaps because I compare it to stuff I really like

DeniseDBabbit Thursday, March 18, 2010 2:12:56 PM

Ahh, the perfectionist ego! I have one of those too. lol

sorinste-ven Thursday, March 18, 2010 4:48:03 PM

DeniseDBabbit Thursday, March 18, 2010 5:49:43 PM

Thank you, Steven. smile

sorinste-ven Thursday, March 18, 2010 8:25:15 PM

sure, because, as usually with you, i can see no svg file/3D image lol lol

DeniseDBabbit Friday, March 19, 2010 3:07:57 AM

Well, I promise, there's 2 up there p lol Do you see the png image?

sorinste-ven Friday, March 19, 2010 9:32:30 AM

the .png yes smile
...but i, probably, have to install some extra-soft to see the .svg !
Anyway, your blog is looking better and better (but take care not to complicate it too much bigsmile ) up

DeniseDBabbit Friday, March 19, 2010 10:21:27 AM

I'm going for clean and uncomplicated for the time being. wink

sorinste-ven Sunday, March 21, 2010 6:50:34 PM

oh, yes, with opera browser 10.50 i can see your .svg
.....but they are the same as the .png file sad
Oh, well, don't worry p that doesn't make me care less ab you !

DeniseDBabbit Monday, March 22, 2010 3:12:00 AM

They're all the same image, just loaded in different file formats. I'm running a test on which format loads the fastest for viewers. The .png file doesn't have a transparent background like the .svg files, so I guess I need to go back and read the tutorials for Inkscape. p

sorinste-ven Monday, March 22, 2010 10:28:10 AM

yes, the .png background is white smile

Weatherlawyer Tuesday, March 23, 2010 9:16:19 AM

The first and second both suffer the same problem of opening as the viewer scolls down. And thr finished product lacks the details on the third.

But the third has a nasty white background. The first two are both on a blue ground.

It takes about 8 frame jumps in slow motion to scroll past image one and then the same for image two. Then the browser runs smoothly past three.

I've no idea why the decal on the first two boards in missing. Just part of the lack of clarity in the SV graphic. What does SV stand for?

Slow, vapid graphic?

DeniseDBabbit Tuesday, March 23, 2010 2:51:09 PM

SV = Scalable Vector. From what I've read about images in SVG format, it seems like one is better off importing .bmp files (also known as rastor graphics) into Inkscape, or other SVG software instead of creating them in that software from the start. I can't figure out why Inkscape won't keep the text together - but then again, I may have forgotten to group it with the rest of the layers when I saved it. whistle Still, if svg formats are dragging, that's not the effect I want.

She has just reinstalled her OS so it should be good (assuming she didn't install something that wrecked it soon after.)

It sounds more like she lost a driver due to updates and the rest of it.
http://my.opera.com/DBabbit/blog/pc-problem-no-sound-bytes.

Funny thing is I have a couple of Linux OSs running on this PC and am unable to hear my CDs on the version I have open now and am unhappy with the other.

Returning all settings to default hasn't helped. Babs can't control what the PC she has does because it is a Dell. Dell is one of the pile 'em high and sell 'em (not all that) cheap merchants.

Michael Dell started buying IBM systems when they would only sell complete suites. Most people in the '80's wanted a PC and a modem.

He found customers for the rest of the hardware IBM made him take, printers and stuff. And got rich in a boom. But like Amstrad, he stayed there by cutting everything to the bone and making upgrades nigh on impossible.

Amstrad went bump because they didn't source their hardware properly and used crap -which is the usual British management tactic for saving money. (It worked for all of Detroit whilst there was a boom and short bust cycles. So it's not just a British disease.)

I'm pretty sure that Linux will work on a Dell but I'm also pretty sure getting the BIOS to function properly with it could be a problem.

Weatherlawyer Wednesday, March 24, 2010 12:59:33 PM

The first 2 surfboards are now just black silhouettes.

Also some Avatars are blank.

I went surfing myself and then came back to this page which had been left open. The avatars are all up and the surfboards are back with the old problems only.

Looks like a CSS problem.
Get rid of the cascading style sheets and try again. With a default things might be better.

Weatherlawyer Wednesday, March 24, 2010 1:30:25 PM

OK. Ditch them when I'm trying to help. See if I care. beer

sorinste-ven Wednesday, March 24, 2010 1:44:59 PM

try the last Ubuntu/or Kubuntu....they seem great @Weatherlawyer up up

About Dell !! well, it's hard to make changes in it, (they are suckers sad ) but you know, here, in East Europe you may have a computer "made of parts" (a desktop, laptops are too individualized ) in 1/2 hour, "customized" lol
Parts are from Taiwan or China, usually smile , and they WORK yes
So, a Dell is like a "French Perfume" lol
btw, these on-site made computers are still cheaper than a
Dell, thus they are popular wink

Yes, I know it. I've used it before. smile Thanks for the link though - I didn't save it the last time I used it, but it's bookmarked this time! smile I also have my sound back, so everything is ok for now. There was a conflict issue between the sound card and the webcam CD I installed. (It helps to know which version of equipment you have before you boot any software!) whistle

My fiance has enough spare computer parts around here that if something bad, we can just replace it. What he lacks is the right sized memory cards for my PC. cry I've got 3 usb flash drives I use to store my files on, and that gets to be a pain after awhile!

When you come over here, you need to hit F5 sometimes. bigsmile I've been changing a few things, and I expect there will be more - although I won't do that with too many blogs! wink Sorry if I confused you.
