Happy Hardcore and You...

...You and Happy Hardcore

Crazy World!

I know it has been some time since Ive updated and to that I am sorry. But right now at the moment of this very post I am listening to what I think is one of the best drum 'n' bass tracks I have ever heard. The track came out last year and I first heard it at a party this past summer. Just recently bought it on MP3 from www.trackitdown.net if anyone cares.

Wickerman & J Majik really made something great with the song "Crazy World." Featuring the ever popular vocals from Kathy Brown, she really made the song what it is. Her voice along with what Wickerman and J Majik put together flow seamlessly. The bassline with the hi-hats, the kick drums with the snares, this is the definition of perfection. It is more on the calm side of dnb but it still holds its own on the energy front, it is nearly impossible not to want to dance when this song hits the speakers.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Back to the new skool?

So we are featuring 3 great tracks this week. Two of them are from the world famous Blatant Beats owned and operated by the all to well known Brisk & Ham. The third track is from Quosh also owned by another dynamic duo, Sy & Unknown.

Ham has been on the top of his game lately. He has had songs featured on many of the recent cd compilations that are just flying off the shelves worldwide. In 2005 it seemed as though he went through a very pianoy, old skool sounding stretch. With Jump to the Groove being one of the biggest tunes of that year, there is one that sticks out that should have been played just as much. Hardcore Velocity. It's a track that is not completely full of energy, it is more of a track that you would play and then hit the crowd with a complete all energetic smasher. This all goes without mentioning the b-side. The b-side is nothing short of amazing as well. Come Again by Ham seems to be one of Joey Riots favorites at the moment. This entire vinyl is a bit underrated. This is another one of those records that should have sold out almost instantly...
Ham - Hardcore Velocity
Ham - Come Again

This second record is one of my personal favorites right now. It has been out for a little bit, but just recently heard it and was instantly hooked. The track is by the one and only Double Dutch which is an alias of Brisk. He hasen't used the Double Dutch name in a long while but it's great that the name has come back, and with vengence. We are talking about the b-side of the most recent from that name. Turn Out the Light. This is the track that would go great right after Hardcore Velocity as featured above. It has so much energy, but still holds that old skool piano sound. This is a sure win with any hardcore crowd. At first this sounded more like a Ham track but like I stated Double Dutch is Brisk alone. The piano, the vocals, the samples, the breakdown...everything just flows together so well. Definitely one of the best to come in the last 6 months.
Double Dutch - Turn Out the Light

For number 3 we are taking a step back in time. Back in time to a track that not only sounded new for its time but still sounds new to this day. GBT Inc. - Better Day(Sy & Unknown remix) was featured on the famous Happy 2b Hardcore Chapter 4 cd. How Sy & Unknown remixed this song to sound so new for so many years is beyond me, but you know, thats what a producer tries to do. This is the typical Sy & Unknown style stuff, you know not much to it as far as sounds and tricks. It gets right to the point plain and clear. This is one of those classics that again never seemed to get played out a lot and no one these days has the guts to play this live except for a select few

Drum 'n' Bass: Instant Classics...

Ok so again it has been a fairly long time since my last post. Ive decided to do a drum n bass review this time. Two pretty well known tracks turned in to drum n bass. One being an old house track, and the second being from an old rock band. These will be short but sweet this time around...

From the artist named Stardust. A well known dnb artist these days, has just released a white label bootleg. Its a remix of the "Music Sounds Better With You" classic house track. The dnb version by Stardust has a very new and very energetic sound to it. It's almost along the lines of breakbeat hardcore, with the way the beat is and the sounds used to make this. This would work well with almost any happy hardcore or breakbeat hardcore set. It seems like a track that would be great to play live as it would get the crowd moving instantly...
Stardust - Music Sounds Better With You

Fleetwood Mac is a pretty big rock band. Or was a pretty big rock band back in 60's-70's. The Contrast aka High Contrast has remixed one of there biggest songs of all time. The name appears to have slipped my mind at the moment but I assure you, you will recognize the vocal sample. Much like the Stardust track this has a very breakbeat hardcory sound to it with the sounds and the beat. If anything these two great tracks would go very well together. Same style of drum n bass, and both are very energetic.

Back to the old skool!

I know it has been a while since my last update, but to be quite honest at the moment the Happy Hardcore scene is in a bit of a slump. A lot of the new stuff seems rather boring so I've decided to take it back to good ole' years between 95-99. We are checking out a couple of classics that never got tons of recognition but are still amazing tracks.

This first track is BDB feat. Lisa - I Want You. BDB stands for Billy Daniel Bunter, and anyone within the HHC scene will have heard of him as he still does a lot of things with CLSM. This track of his was featured on one of the Happy 2b Hardcore cds mixed by Anabolic Frolic, it was on Chapter 4 to be exact. Ever since this cd worked its way into my collection, this is one of the tracks that stood out to me. It was released on vinyl in 1998 on a label that goes by the name of Noize. This song was WAY ahead of its time. If you listen to a lot of the other tracks on that cd none of them sound this new and fresh. BDB really brought something very interesting to the table as he is more of a "Hard Dance" producer and not so much a Happy Hardcore producer. He switched it up and pumped out this massive and amazing choon.

The second track I am featuring is by the infamous duo Sy & Demo. The tracks that these two guys have made together are fanominal. To name a couple by these two masters: Tears Run Cold, and Sensation. By we have all heard those plenty of times in the past. The one I am talking about is Sy & Demo - Stay With Me. This almost sad and slow sounding Happy Hardcore tune was alos featured on the Happy 2b Hardcore series, this one was on Chapter 5. Like I said, this song almost sounds slower and more sad than traditional Happy Hardcore, but don't let that stop you from checking this out. This is one of the last songs this duo ever did together since Demo left the scene soon after this came out. It was released a little before the down fall of Happy Hardcore, when people stopped listening to it because the whole sound changed from cheesy, happy, uplifting vocals to more trancy and boring type stuff. So listen to this part of history from one of the best duos to ever happen to the entire Happy Hardcore scene.

Hardcore Massive(3 mix series)

I have put the entire Hardcore Massive series in one simple downloadable file. Its a .zip file thats roughly 259mb.

This includes Hardcore Massive 1, 2, and 3(side A & B) with a single text file of all the tracklistings.

This is all to set up my next series of mixes, going to record the first this coming weekend hopefully, otherwise the first will be recorded next week and online that weekend.

Hardcore Massive 1 is my most downloaded mix, its the first mix I ever put out that had drum n bass and hardcore in it. If you like that sort of stuff, then you will love my next series. Im not saying to much about it just yet, but I assure you it will blow the Hardcore Massive series out of the water. In some sense they will be a bit a like but a lot more interesting.

FYI Hardcore Massive 2 isn't the greatest quality, it was compressed when it was up on morecore and the computer that has the original copy of it stopped working. So that one may not sound as good as the other 2, but atleast you can listen to it.

Get all of your friends to download this, its free, why wouldn't you?

Club Style Happy Hardcore!?!?!?

I know it has been a while since I have updated this. It comes down to the fact that there really isn't all that many good tracks coming out right now. It seems as though a lot of the producers are trying to make there happy hardcore more of a club style of happy hardcore and that just doesn't work with me. The tracks are good for a while but then they tend to get really old after 20 times of listening to them. Hopefully something will come out that it worth posting about...and soon...

Raveheart

So we all know Braveheart was a pretty big movie. Probably one of the most well known movies about European, specifically Scottish history. Now imagine hearing the theme song...Yeah, you got it, now along with the theme song try to imagine a really fast beat with some freeformy/trancy synths over it. If you can't hear it then this may help you out...This is a remix of the ever popular Braveheart track by an "anonymous" artist on Joining of the Clans Records. This just a 2006 update of the track with even more energy than the original. Whatever, just take a listen.

Angelz All Around the World

So it has been a little while since my last post on here...Since my last vinyl review there are really only 2 that stick out as a "wow" type of track.

This first one is a new release on Quosh Records. Coming from either a new artists called Footprintz, or else that is just another alias of Sy & Unknown...honestly, im not really sure which it is. All I know for sure is this track rocks. The track name is Angelz. Its another upfront, bouncy, cheesy, happy hardcore track. Its a very short review, I think the sample will speak for itself.
Footprintz - Angelz(Sy & Unknown remix) [Quosh Records]

Alright, this one we are sortof going back to the old skool. This next song is by the one, the only, DJ Seduction. Some of the biggest old skool classics around were made or produced by this man. Hes a genius in the sence that he is one of few that brings old skool flavor to the new skool sounds. DJ Seduction - All Around the World...Its got some cheese in it, some nice little old skool aspects. Its basically got everything I personally look for in a track. It is a track that should be played live, and a lot! This is one of those tracks that without a doubt would get the crowd bumping and jumping with so much energy and some nice vocals to sing along to. So memorize it and sing along whenever you hear it...

New Skool Cheese...

Joey Riot is kind of a youngin' in the happy hardcore scene. He has been djing for a while but has not been producing for all to long. In the past few years he has blown up into an HHC superstar. He makes a sortof new skool "cheesecore" style of hardcore. Some of his stuff boarders freeform, but a lot of his more recent tracks have been more on the cheesy side of things, and this record is nothing less than cheesy goodness. Joey Riot - Into Tomorrow, is one of the best new tracks around. With some cheesy but meaningful lyrics, and a super easy to mix beat. It has an amazing piano line in it that makes it feel ultra happy and very uplifting. It makes you feel good to be alive. Whats surprising to me is not that many people seem to be playing this out a lot, and thats very unfortunate. So whoever reads this that is an HHC dj, go out and pick this up and play it!
Joey Riot - Into Tomorrow (Blatant Beats Records)

This next song is from the sistering label of Baltant Beats; Next Generation. Brisk we all know has been around forever and it one of the biggest names in the entire hardcore scene. VAGABOND has been around a few years but has only been producing in the last 5 or so years. Brisk brings the many years of experience to the table and VAGABOND brings the young and fresh ways of doing things. With that mixture you get a very hard beat, nice breakdowns, and some very crazy tunes. This song doesnt only have HHC in it but also has some nice hard house in the middle of the track. This isnt the normal UK Hard House, oh no...This is the very hard US Hard House style, almost gabber sounding. This is one of those tracks that will get the crowds moving with the beat, especially for the hard house part. Honestly, who wouldnt be banging there hand in the air to that? Ham has his own remix on the b-side of the vinyl, a completely different style with some nice breakbeat parts, and a bit more uplifting than the original. Both great tracks.
