Opera - with GTK theme (blends in great with my Sand theme)
you should take a CD for a spin http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu - it doesn't have to be installed to see if it works and connects to internet. Dual boot takes all the security bothers out of internet
Hey! I took Mint's latest Gloria version for a ride and it works just fine! Installation was a breeze. Don't know about Ubuntu though. Problem is, you can't install every kind.
Then there's no need. I use Ubuntu because after a few minor headaches in version 7.10 it has worked fine for me - if I'd started with Mint, then I'd probably have stuck with that. I don't use any default menu's, I installed Mint menu's and didn't like them either - if you don't stick to the defaults, I think there's little difference. I wouldn't like bright themes (sandy theme is nice in Ubuntu and I didn't change that much) - but they're only bundled on the CD, not fixed like an XP theme.
I can't see (for the immediate future) how the webkit browsers like Chrome and Safari can really threaten the features of Opera/Firefox - for me, they're excellent default browsers which open up almost instantly - so I set 'web application' shortcuts for some things that I can launch straight from gnome-do (e.g. this page - I type in 'oblog' and it's open in 2 seconds).
I've finally decided to set aside anymore tentatives with Linux. Installing new applications like scanners and digital camera software is a pain (if not impossible).
So far, i find Opera to be much more responsive than Firefox 3.5 Keeping a close eye though on the upcoming 3.6.

It's snappier - but I find it's a pain for opening my Digg feeds - they open with the Digg toolbar and I then have to open the page in Chromium for it to work. Opera doesn't work with the Digg bar :-s Not a dealbreaker
I installed mpscangear (downloaded a .deb) and my Canon printer worked fine - I don't understand about digital camera software. I just plug my camera in to the usb and it opens like a folder.
Deep down, what's the advantage of having Linux? Is it simply because it's not MSN? Good reason.
But speed wise, i don't find it to load any quicker than XP Home with SP2 (in my case) and surfing the web isn't much quicker (we're at the extremes territorial limits for high speed).
So, if your computer works fine why bother to "fix it"?
Perhaps someday i'll test drive Ubuntu (i've uninstalled Mint). For now, i'm happy to test drive OpenOffice dev 3.2 Boy! Is this version quick to load and move around!!

Chromium 4.0.219.0 (Ubuntu build 27064) is very sexy. Firefox 3.7 is also a most excellent browser with many functions that put Opera in the shade.
Opera is still a very comfortable and stylish browser to use.

Haven't been following the new stuff in Firefox 3.7
Have to check that out!
Yes, i find Opera to be sleek and "very comfortable" as you said.
Thanks for your "visit" Ben2talk!
Still on XP Home.

Yes, 4609 - well there is no harm in sorting out a dual-boot!
Take a peek into my dropbox
Shiretoko (stable preview FF 3.5.4 right now)(3.7 looks the same if you install tinymenu and 'Chromium extreme' theme)http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/446031/Firefox-U.jpg
