He's ignorant. :irked:
And as if making them stay unmarried would prevent them from having kids.

Mit 16. October 2009, 18:01

Can't believe what I read :irked:

Dacotah 16. October 2009, 18:06

Interracial kids are amongst the most beautiful I have ever seen.
Purely on a biological base, one should applaud such marriages.
It is a way out of inbreed and thus weakening of the race.
Apart from that, what makes a lawuer ( judge ) an expert on love? Statistics? Ha, if you realise what can be done with those, they are worthless, except for the original researcher.

many emotions come over me,

angry for seeing an a$$ of person holding an important position in society,
sad for an a$$ of a human that did not learn much from history and he wants to repeat mistakes,
sorry for the couple that had to deal with such an a$$
glad he is only one in hundreds of judges that bring justice
in a so troubled society we are living in...
thanks for sharing Carol,
I do not see him holding his position for much longer....

Tånegl 16. October 2009, 18:45

That's disgusting :furious: !! What a total asshole!

Dacotah 16. October 2009, 19:04

daxonmacs, guess the judge doesn't care that same race couples gets divorced too.

Angeliki, I hope you are right and he looses his job soon. Wonders if the Mayor will get involved. He should.

Kimmie, I agree. A racists asshole that's for sure.

PainterWoman 16. October 2009, 19:44

If he is not asked to step down, I highly suspect he will NOT get re-elected.

Darko 16. October 2009, 20:21

Sounds to me like people are putting words in his mouth. We live in a racist world and, that this guy worrys about the kids of mixed race couples only shows that he's actually seen how awfully they get treated in the real world. This is in Louisiana after all so I'm sure he's seen the reality of racism and that's probably what drew him to this way of doing things. All those people saying that he's worried the children might grow up to be president are just painting him as a racist where there's no real proof he is. Although it's his job to marry people he didn't feel comfortable in these circumstances (which suggests he needs a new job if he can't fulfill all the obligations of this one), but he never denied them a marriage license as the headlines keep saying. Rather he said he wouldn't carry out the ceremony himself and referred them to someone else who would marry them.

Why they're so set on having someone who they think is a racist marry them is beyond me, especially one who is well known in that area for passing on mixed race marriages, has gone on record with his reason before now and always recommends someone else to do it so the people can be together. Perhaps it's easier to get a lawsuit that way?

"Earlier this month, Bardwell refused to issue a marriage license to Beth Humphrey, who is white, and Terence McKay, who is black."

What the hell, the article doesn't show what he said.
Wonder what happened to it.

Dacotah 16. October 2009, 22:47

""I'm not a racist. I just don't believe in mixing the races that way," Bardwell told the Associated Press on Thursday. "I have piles and piles of black friends. They come to my home, I marry them, they use my bathroom. I treat them just like everyone else.""

Now that's a more informative article. The one you linked to in the post just gives one impression, hatred for the sake of hatred with nothing to back it up at all. The guy does have some outdated racist views and I stand by my conviction that he's in the wrong job. However he's didn't stop them getting married or deny them a licence at all, instead he just removed himself from the loop and recommended someone else.

"There is a problem with both groups accepting a child from such a marriage." That's something I've heard so many times from mixed-race friends in this country. Maybe he is racist and just using it as an excuse but he doesn't try to talk them out of marriage or hurl abuse or anything like that. Instead he stands up for what he believes in (something I'd usually respect in this shallow "Me too" world) and gets himself out of the situation, respecting their wishes by passing them to someone who has a better view of the world. So if he is racist he's aware he sees things this way but is trying not to let it interfere with his work while not doing the work that interferes with his principles.

If he'd just refused to marry them I'd be right there in the sea of irked smileys along with everyone else, but the fact remains that he just took himself out of the situation and did pass them to someone else. To me it's like a straight guy having a gay man come on to him then everyone being pissed that he didn't sleep with him, even though he's pointed the gay guy to his own gay friend.

Mik, I don't know what happened to the article I link too in the post. It had different writing then it does now. Confused.

Kiran, I call people human.

Kiran 17. October 2009, 04:12

I have a gut feeling that there will be a day when we will realize that beyond labeles each and every person in the world actually is an individual homo sapien.

Dacotah 17. October 2009, 04:57

I hope that day comes soon.

Furie 17. October 2009, 08:15
