I have had this happen just recently when I would minimize the window. It will minimize to task bar, then I get a dialog box that Opera has stopped working and needs to close, blah, blah. Then it closes itself. But I have to restart it manually.

Tab 6. November 2009, 20:28

Lots of crashes on my end as well.

Carol 6. November 2009, 21:04

I get it a lot no matter what I'm doing.
Answering a comment, on any website, even when I close the browser I get it.
Just really frustrating that it happens so many times a day.

dirk 6. November 2009, 22:03

:sherlock: no crashes on my version at all ... I'm running the 10.10 4694 on linux .. :sherlock: and the 10.10 1857 on windows ...

Linda 6. November 2009, 22:06

I think mine is the latter. Have set automatic updates but not sure it does them.

dirk 6. November 2009, 22:10

you can see which version you're running if you go to the menu "help" => "about opera" there's the version number shown

Tab 6. November 2009, 23:11

I am running the latest version.

Carol 6. November 2009, 23:33

I'm running the 10.01 version and didn't chose the automatic updates.
I've been having this problem since the previous update too.

Linda 7. November 2009, 01:27

10.10 Beta 1833

Suntana 7. November 2009, 03:15

Did you install 10.01 in its own Folder?
Do you use the Windows MSI Installer version or the Windows Classic Installer?

Maybe you should try the latest Snapshot, Carol.

Carol 7. November 2009, 06:06

Carlos, I do not know anything about computers. I should say I do not know much.
Sorry, I know you are trying to help me.

Darko 7. November 2009, 07:00

I have 10.01.1844 and everything works fine. Carol, maybe you should uninstal completely Opera, restart your computer and then install it all over again

Carol 7. November 2009, 07:23

I dunno, I just wish it would get fixed.
Thanks Darko.

DrLaunch 7. November 2009, 10:54

Reporting errors all the time won't fix your problem unless you do something.

If it's an Opera bug, you can some times fix the problem by installing a newer version of Opera or uninstalling Opera, then reinstall it.

Some times it's a problem with a browser plugin such as flash, shockwave, quicktime, adobe reader or similar. This can be solved by installing a newer version of the plugin or uninstall it and reinstalling it. Deactivating the plugin in Opera can also help sometimes.

Some times it's because Windows is missing some updates. You can solve this by running Windows Update.

Some time's it's because you're using outdated driver software on your computer. You can download the latest version of the drivers from the manufacturers support website.

Some times it's because another program is running on your computer, interfering. You can try closing some programs and see if the problem stops. You can also run a virus scan to remove harmful programs that interfere with your computers operations. Some firewall software will also interfere with your programs. I've never experienced problems when using a combination of a free virus scanner like Avast! Home edition or AVG Free and Windows firewall.

And lastly it might be caused by faulty hardware. If it's the hard drive, you can scan it for errors and run a disk defragmenter. If it's an other component it might need a replacement.

As you can see, just sending an error report without doing anything else won't usually solve your problem.

Carol 7. November 2009, 11:07

Dr. Launch, thank you.
Then I don't know why they have send report if it doesn't help fix the problem.

I don't think the manufacturer has a website.

Most the time I'm not running another program.

I have Avast, Ad-Aware and Windows firewall.

Wouldn't know about faulty hardware.

Besides, I'm not the only one this is happening too.

Tab 7. November 2009, 15:32

It's not only you...and the instalation isn't the problem either. Mugs is also having crashes to the point that he has no interest in using Opera.

I think this is a bug that requires some attention on Opera's part to resolve it.

DrLaunch 7. November 2009, 15:57

Crash reports help Opera Software figure out why Opera is crashing. This will usually help them avoid the crash in future versions of Opera. Some times they can't solve the problem beacause the crash is caused by other software. But future versions of Opera will also include a crash scanner that will notify you when it's a known crash and it's caused by other software.

Manufacturers of hardware will always have a support website. Usually you'll have have to visit the website of the company that assembled the PC.

Tab 7. November 2009, 16:03

I know that Opera doesn't get along with Mcaffee updater. If the updater starts while I have Opera running Opera will stop responding every time.

Carol 7. November 2009, 16:53

What gets me is about the crashes is it happens even after I close the browser.

Tab 7. November 2009, 16:59

I know..I love Opera, but I don't have these problems with other browsers.

Carol 7. November 2009, 18:06

Yep, me too. Love Opera browser and My Opera Community.

DrLaunch 7. November 2009, 18:07

Does it crash even when you run Opera with no pages open?

Carol 7. November 2009, 18:09

I don't know, never had it with no pages open.

Linda 7. November 2009, 19:49

Carol, Tab, do you have Opera set as default browser? If not, Opera will crash repeatedly. I found that out. Still had IE as default browser. As soon as I switched and made Opera my default browser, it quit crashing. Now it doesn't crash nearly as often.

Carol 7. November 2009, 20:29

Yes, it's my default browser.

Tab 7. November 2009, 20:36

Also default.

DrLaunch 7. November 2009, 21:47

Then try running Opera with no tabs open and tell me if it'll crash. Try closing it and see if it'll crash as well.

Mart 8. November 2009, 01:14

I've seen some graphical corruption in the latest version, but no crashes. And it's never been set as my default browser. Crashing is usually plugin-related for me, but I have them disabled by default anyway now.

Suntana 8. November 2009, 03:25

Hmmm? Something funky's going on, Carol, Tab.
I'm running the latest Opera 1857 Snapshot with AOL Dial Up as my ISP :insane: ... Windows XP on a very old, slow computer with only 256 Meg of RAM and only a Celeron Processor and I'm NOT experiencing the extreme crashes y'all are. I too am using avast and the Windows Firewall.

Linda 8. November 2009, 03:30

Carol, have you emptied your browser cache lately? That usually helps when mine starts acting up.

Carol 8. November 2009, 03:40

Hi Mart, good to see you.

Hi Carlos, I'm not the only one this is happening too. Someone else won't use the latest updates because of the crashes.

Yes Linda, every time I close the browser it empties.

Carol 8. November 2009, 03:42

Dr. Launch, How can I run it with no tabs, it opens to speed dial.
You just want me to open it with out tabs and sit there without going anywhere on the web to see if it crashes?
It even crashes sometimes after I close the browser.

DrLaunch 8. November 2009, 08:58

Well, i meant with no open pages. And yes yes yes. If you want the problem solved I need more information about the crashes.

Carol 8. November 2009, 10:16

Yes I want the problem solved but I don't know if I have the patience to run it without any open pages.
I just know it crashes whenever it feels like it. Sometimes not for a long time then all of a sudden 3 or 4 times with in a short period.

DrLaunch 8. November 2009, 11:47

Well, then I'll jump to the next step in troubleshooting. If i can't solve the problem with the next steps we'll have to go back to the first step.

Press F12 and untick Enable Plug-Ins. This will disable things like videos on YouTube and other plug-ins. If you need those, you'll need to repeat the procedure.

Does Opera still crash regularly during normal use?

Tab 8. November 2009, 14:09

Yeah that's when the problems started..latest updates. Mugs just posted about his crashing too. Also since latest updates.

Linda 8. November 2009, 19:16

Is it a conflict with Adobe flash player? I have had that happen before. Now that I recall, I have had a bit of a problem occasionally since I installed the latest Adobe flash update. And come to think of it, the last time Opera crashed with me was when I had been on Farmtown on Facebook, and then minimized Opera to the task bar. Instead of minimizing, it crashed completely.

Suntana 8. November 2009, 19:58

Maybe that's why I've been lucky. I've declined installing the Flash Player Update whenever it pops up.

Carol 8. November 2009, 20:26

okay, just done that now I will see how many times it crashes.
I had one crash earlier today.
Why does it when I hit F12 again to see if it's unticked that it is selected again? UGH!!! Went to Tools instead.

Carol 8. November 2009, 23:56

Update, since I unticked that I have noticed the pages loading a lot faster.

Karen 11. November 2009, 03:43

I'm going back to 9.64. Opera NEVER crashed on me prior to 10 - now it crashes daily.

Carol 11. November 2009, 04:18

Well, since I turned off the "Enable plug ins" it hasn't crashed. Pain in the butt to have to turn it on to watch a video clip though. And yes, shortly after turning it on to watch one it crashed.

Karen 11. November 2009, 04:23

Homer: Doh!

Well, whatever works best for ya'! :D I just prefer the older version. I never use the Unite feature or anything, anyway.

Carol 11. November 2009, 04:26

:D

Well now that I did what Dr Launch wanted me to may-be he can fix it.
I've never used Unite either or Turbo.

Karen 11. November 2009, 05:13

Yeah - ditto. I hope it all works out for ya'! The last thing you need is computer troubles.

Carol 11. November 2009, 05:28

DrLaunch 11. November 2009, 07:33

Ah. Seems like you have a faulty Flash player. Try installing the latest version from here.

Mart 11. November 2009, 08:14

:sst: bad link

First uninstall Flash, and then reinstall it
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Carol 11. November 2009, 13:04

Thank you Dr. Launch

Hi Mart Thank you. :D
