Good News Everyone! I've Been Spared a Trip to the Suicide Booth!

Futurama is back, and now we know in what form. The show will return on November 27th as a full-length high-def film sold on DVD. It will be followed by three additional films, and each film will be divided into four episodes each to be aired on Comedy Central. So, that's 4 DVD movies or 16 new episodes depending on how you look at it.

I remember watching "Futurama" when it came out. The little sub-titles at the bottom of the screen when each episode started were unique, and at times rather funny. One of my favorites being "It is a violation of federal law to change the channel."

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind Bender telling everyone to "Bite my shiny metal ass!" or Nibbler's antics, or Fry's stupidity or even Lila's one eye. I also don't mind Zap Brannigan (the best Shatner spoof ever, if you ask me) making a complete fool of himself every chance he got.

No, what really did it for me was the mature topics that were conveyed in such a funny manner, like the Native Martians kidnapping the buggalo, the mutants under New New York City, Nixon's head, or even Bender playing God (and becoming one, until the life he created ended up destroying itself in thermonuclear warfare).

I don't know how many of you ever watched the show, but if you havne't, the HD-DVD collection coming out later this year will probably be a great way for you to start. If you can't wait, or are a "Futurama" junkie like me, you can catch it on Adult Swim five nights a week.

Dave Woods writes: Great news Dan, from what I heard, Fox never really gave it a chance over there and put it on at crazy times so they shouldn't have been surprised when the ratings weren't as high as the Simpsons and I was disappointed when they canceled it after only four seasons. Needless to say I own all four seasons on DVD and they're probably the DVD's that get played more often than any others in my collection so this is great news

Andy writes: Yeah, this is good news. I always thought Futurama to be one of the most originally funny cartoons. You know, I hadn't clicked that Zap B was a Shatner spoof, now I know why he wears a little skirt. lol. Great observation.
