My little corner of Opera

Those who know me will tell you I haven't had the most pleasant past; not only was my childhood anything but "normal" or "typical" but most of my 20s as well (I'll be 29 next month for those who are keeping track). Any time I start feeling "down" or like the world just doesn't care, I find myself listening to classical music, as well as uplifting alternative rock such as this song by Collective Soul called "The World I Know".

As for why I'm posting this, well aside from the original video I was going to post getting yanked, there's been a lot going on in my life and around my local community as of late. Not only the shooting rampage at Northern Illinois University, but also a bomb going off in downtown Aurora a couple weeks ago (about a mile from where I live no less) as well as school threats at local middle and high schools in Aurora, Geneva and Kaneland.

I don't know, maybe it's just the winter blahs getting to people, maybe someone's just trying to be a copycat, or perhaps it's just that some people really are screwed up in the head - like I said, I just don't know. But as I tend to keep to myself here in Aurora, I find myself being isolated from these things, only finding out about them by reading the paper or catching the news online. But as it is, I'm feeling cooped up by "these four walls" and even now it's starting to get on my nerves, especially with the new responsibilities I've chosen to take upon myself recently. So perhaps it's time I pull out the classical and other uplifting music and start listening to it for a change - before the annual "spring cleaning" itch starts to take hold.
