Dangerous Dave's Dlog

Taming of the Shrew

, , ,

I have been hard at work on a new version of Pointed that will be bigger and better than ever before.

The number on reason was to get rid of Google Friend Connect, and the javascript dependency associated with it. Instead, I will create a login system for the website which quite possibly could involve a username that could be used on other websites I have or will make in the future. These websites would include my homepage PerilousPete.com (and the blog eventually associated with it) as well as an Open Source website, with the source of games I make for Pointed available for download, so long as you have "purchased" the original game.

At the moment I am working on the layout for the website, with the four main pages mostly done. After that I will get the login system up and running, then the peripheral pages, at which point I will start working on the new feature to be added to Pointed. This feature will allow non-points based games to find their place on the website, allowing a larger range of game types.

This new feature is yet to be named, but it will be similar to PSN Trophies. Actually, the original idea was almost exactly like those. I've never played on the PSN and never knew these trophies existed, instead getting the idea from a mix of Steam achievements, and Desert Dog suggesting awarding PointedPoints to people who finish certain games. Desert Dog and I had discussions and eventually came up with the perfect trophy system (and that's what we called it, trophies) where you had different achievements (like Steam), except they were rated by difficulty. Bronze, Silver and Gold trophies would award you a different amount of Pointed Points. That's right, we invented PSN Trophies several years after the fact. I came across their trophy system and thought "Oh no".

A similar system will still be implemented, however, I would like to somehow make it unique (or seem less like we stole it). So if you have any ideas, please go ahead and suggest them smile.

How long have you had your personal website and why had I never heard of it? Wow, it's right there on the sidebar...

Oh and the name for it is just plain awesome. smile Was that name my idea from a long time ago on the GMC or am I mixing it up with something else?

I've had it for several months, and yes it was your name idea p. Dangerous_Dave is a nice name but it's not exactly original, so it's really hard to get. I have several things as perilouspete now, including my Twitter account and my website. I have no idea how I managed to get Dangerous_Dave for Steam.

Edit: Turns out I didn't get Dangerous_Dave on Steam, it's PerilousPete yet again. Everywhere I go it says my name is Dangerous_Dave, but when I login it's PerilousPete...
