Time Rift Build 14

, , ,

After some suggestions, I have a slightly modified new version of Time Rift.

Changes include, but aren't limited to:

Enter/Esc will skip most cutscenes, dying animations, etc.
Wall collisions improved
Smoke/Death effect lightened up a bit (actually I changed it from random(50+50) to random(50)+50 P:)
Level 23 made easier

This version includes no changes to the save file format, so you can copy the file "data.dav" from the old build into the directory of the new build before starting the game and it should let you continue where you left off (if you put it there while the game is running, it could be overwritten or loaded depending on what you do in the game ).

Please give it a test and let me know what you think, report any bugs to me (posting them here is fine) and suggestions are still welcome .

Also, I have been trying to think of a way to incorporate this game into my website Pointed. Pointed games sort of require a high score based game play, so if you can think of how this game could be incorporated into that setting then please let me know .

Oooh, a new version! I'm still busy as heck, but I'll be sure to download, and try 23 again. :D

Hmm, pointed is giving me a 404 error... so I don't know what it's like, but maybe... it records how many times you died, while beating the game? :p
Or even better, maybe, even, just record, who past the whole game.. since that in itself, would be quite an achievement, I'm thinking.... :D

I want to be able to awards points, and it needs to be redoable. So I came up with this idea: Ninja Speed Run . Once you have beaten the ninja levels, Ninja Speed Run is unlocked. You have to complete the 7 levels as fast as you can. Faster gives you more Pointed Points. I've actually already implemented it and about to make a new blog post about it, but you can get it here: http://pointed.freehostia.com/game.php?q=7

It's still hidden from the main view on Pointed, and probably will be until I release a beta version (which should be close). You can submit your top time, and hopefully Pointed will handle it ok since it's never had to deal with times before...

As for the 404 error, that's odd. I assume you mean the home page? I keep getting 503 errors, which isn't my fault, it's the hosts (I even got confirmation from them). If I wasn't so damn poor right now I'd pay for hosting, but I don't see it happening any time soon (unless you want to donate, the link's at the bottom of each page on Pointed ).

Lucky, I waited till now, to download Build 14.. because you gone and released Build 15! :p

Hmm, those links work fine.. the website looks pretty cool, best of luck with that, mate. :)

Level 23 was still hard... but not hard enough! :p I have to say, level 24 and 25 were pretty soft.. especially 25.

However, I think level 28 has made up for that. :( It's haaaaaaaard, darn it! :p

Hehe, nice try! The reason I've been so busy this week, is because I've been training 6+ hours a day, for a job... I'm a poor man, meself, and have to save for uni next year. (which isn't going to be cheap...)

But, in saying that, I may be able to submit a game, for your site.. or though, I don't know if I have any you'll want :p

You are just saying that because you spent so much time gettinggood at it. Or if not, should it be slightly harder? Should the levels be in a different order?

I'm willing to look at anything. Something that would benifit from having an online highscore board is a good start. Usually arcade type games. Something where the point of the game is to get a high score. Covert Cooper was kind of changed to fit because I really wanted it on this site. And I added the part to Time Rift for the same reason P:.

Well.... let's just say, I downloaded the new version, transferred the save file, and went to level 23, right? Even though it was easier, it still took me well over a dozen tries, before I aced it. ( V for victory!) I passed level 24, on the second go, and level 25... 3rd go? something like that.

But, I think that's ok... I wasn't like 'oh, this is easy, booring!', it was more like, a breather, after a hard task.

Level 27 is great, btw. My favorite of the bunch, pretty clever. :)

Well, I've only one (finished) game, which is specifically highscore based... Attic Toys, which won an award, at one of the Gamecog.net competitions. It isn't much, just a simple 3d shooter, made in a few weeks, but you can have it on the site, if you want...

Like I said, not much, so I'm not sure if that's the sort of game your after for your site. :)

But, yeah, I have some spare time... time to take out that pesky level 28! (and try those ninja levels, your talking about...)

Thanks . It's actually changed from the previous builds. I was playing it and though "if that was a little higher, you wouldn't be able to do this, you'd have to do that", etc. So the whole thing requires a specific order. I think it's my favourite too .

I'll take a look some time, probably after the weekend .

I'm basically looking for any half decent game where it could be fun to try to beat the high scores of others. I'll get more picky later, when I have a decent selection of games .

I don't think level 28 is particularly hard, but I did alter it from previous versions to make it that little bit easier. It was all fine except for one ridiculously hard bit, which I made less hard .
