Search Engine optimisation how it works & why we need it?

Hello, my name is David Brett I am 48 years old and have been involved in the computer and web industry since 1996, before this I was a senior engineer for a large UK based corporation.

I posted this Blog in the hope of arming some of you budding search engine optimisation (SEO) beginners with enough knowledge to start ranking your own websites.

The very first website I Optimised now has top ten positions for at least 20 keyword phrases, I have not touched this site for several months, there is not a great deal of content, but yet the site is ranked for many keyword phrases. ? Read on if you want to discover how its done.

Don’t take my word for it check out the keywords I ranked my very first site with, you will even see a photo of me on there, not a pretty picture I have to admit
The results of my very first seo work done in 2003 and still these keywords are ranked in 1st position
This is my own website I am currently redesigning and will be replacing as soon as I can find the
time

Overview
What an Internet user may not be aware of, every time they enter a keyword search phrase into a search engine such as Google, Yahoo or MSN, there are hundreds of thousands of websites competing for these keyword phrases.
As a general rule of thumb TEN websites are listed on each search engine results page (SERPS). Internet users may not be aware, but every time they look at the results pages after conducting a web search, they will show a tendency to visit only the websites listed on the first two pages (Top 20 results).

Because user traffic is essential in the success of a website, many website owners and web development specialists who are serious about doing business on the Internet will do everything they can do to get top rankings in search engines. The most effective strategy in achieving this is by submitting your website to search engine optimisation companies or by hiring specialist SEO consultancies to do the SEO work.

If your budget does not run to this and you are a struggling one man band, then read on, I hope I have given you enough information to at least give you a chance in the search position wars, I say war because that’s exactly what it is, a great deal of planning and strategy will be required to beat your competition

I know just how difficult it was to learn the many components required to effectively SEO a website, and I hope by producing this simple guide, it may at least help you decide what is right for you

How does an SEO firm carry out search engine optimisation (SEO) services

SEO services can be divided into two specific categories; these two categories go hand in hand.

Category 1: On-Page SEO

Category 2: Off-Page SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMISATION.

When we speak of On-Page SEO services, we are talking about content of the website itself. The articles on your website should be written in such a way that they contain keywords phrases relevant to the website products or services being promoted, but they should also be of interest and worthwhile to your website visitors, after all, who wants to visit a site which is of no value.

I will be posting two pages a week to this Blog, if you would like to receive the complete ebook, Please contact me on http://www.seoguru.co.uk/contact_us.html adding in the Company field (Ebook Request)
