the mms post did not work. My train home today was delayed by a particularly welsh reason - there were sheep on the trck between pen-coed & pontyclun!

Following on from a successful car free week, I thought I'd give it another go for a month. I bought myself a season ticket yesterday for £80.70 - which makes a weeks rail travel cheaper than the car. Fortunatly the weather is still fine!

Conclusion.
There is not much difference between the train and the car for this journey. It means that I am able to fit in an extra 40 minutes of walking per commuter day! I like to think that I am "Eco-Friendly" so perhaps I should put my money where my mouth is and continue to use the train. I do not think I would like to car share - I've tried it in the past and I think it encroaches on my personal space and is probable less flexible than the train.

06-09-22 Friday
Not sure this morning if the '19 was late or the '34 was early, but I left Grangetown at 06:31. Plenty of time to catch the 06:54 to Carmarthen again. Weather seems to have blessed me this week. Even this early, it's been really warm, if a little overcast. Arrived Bridgend at 07:14 and reached the office at 07:24.
Left the office at 15:47 and made it in time for the 15:00 InterCity service. Arrived in Cardiff at 15:25.

Actually, the Cwmbran train is the 07:50 from Cardiff to Manchester, so I had to get the '34 from Grangetown. I am going to Llantarnam Business Park, so it will be interesting to see how the public bus fares (Har-Har), otherwise it's a taxi.
As it's a special trip, I thought I'd treat myself to a 'latte'! (£2.15). Train fare was only £6.10.
After a bit of research, caught the 15 bus to Llantarnam Park. Bought a return for £3.10 and it left at 08:35 and it was a 'bustler'. Bus arrived 10 to 9 and I walked to the venue by 9. Another lovely day - I was also first to arrive!
Conference finished at 15:20 and I had a lift to the station which took 5 minutes. Train left Cwmbran 15:38. Arrived Cardiff 16:05 and decided to have a look at the Queen Steet shops.

06-09-20 Wednesday.
Reached Grangetown by 06:32, but the indicator board stated that the 06:34 was arriving at 06:43. Fortunately, although a little windy up on the Grangetown platform, it is still dry. I've solved the mystery of the ticket sales: The Aberdare train is a double pair, with no connecting corridor. As I get on at the front, the conductor is unable to sell me a ticket. I was almost tempted to get the direct service via the airport, but instead ended up on the (cleaner today) Carmarthen train at 06:54 again. Arrived Bridgend 07:14 and I reached the office 07:24.
Had a bit of typing to do, so left the office at 16:45, ready for the 17:00 InterCity service. The weather is breezy, but still mainly sunny. Always a pleasure travelling on the 125. Reached the house around 17:45.

06-09-19 Tuesday.
It rained heavily overnight, which did not bode well... However, it was pleasant enough without a coat. Today, I was able to get the 06:34 train. There's always a catch and it's the reason that the rail system is so annoying - there was no-one about to sell me a ticket! I asked a staff member where I could buy a ticket and was directed to the front off the station. Of course, I was not allowed through the gates and had to walk to the back of the station, to the un-advertised ticket booth. As a result, I missed the connecting train (I saw it pulling away) so had a short wait before the 06:54 Carmarthen train left. This train was another fairly clean alpha-line. Arrived Bridgend 07:14 and I reached the office 07:24.
I have been asked to attend an event on Thursday in Cwmbran. This will involve a taxi, I think.
Left the office at 15:34 to catch the 15:53 service. It's a lovely bright sunny day - I've been really lucky with the weather. Still catching up on my "podcasts"...
At Cardiff, I stepped straight onto the Grangetown train and reached the house at 16:30.
