The Prince & The Fairy

* * *
“Rose! Where are you, Rose?” Jack came onto the roof where Rose was sitting looking at the stars in the sky blue. The moon was half veiled by the clouds and half revealing just like a newly wed bride. “Rose! O Rose! You are sitting here and I was looking for you everywhere.” Rose was calm and looked absorbed deep in her thoughts. “Rose???” He shook her shoulders from behind. “Hi, Jack!” “Rose, I have got a great story for you. It will move your heart a lot. I’m sure you will love it!” “Thanks Jack!” She was smiling. Her face was glowing with the blaze of the stars. “Where is it?” She looked searchingly. “No! It’s no story book! I will tell you the story. It’s a real one! My God! A rare one!” Jack’s eyes were looking unusually joyful. They seemed as if they had seen a great treasure. “Jack, I love it when you have a story for me. Now, tell me the whole story.” “But, Rose, it will not finish until the dawn. Are you ready to spend the whole night sitting beside me and listening to the story?” “Yeah, Jack.” She said in a whispering voice. She didn’t know how to express herself. She expressed herself by means of smiles and lovely looks that she always gave to others whenever she could not say something in words. “Rose, the story is about a boy and a girl. They loved each other so much. But you know, Rose, they never saw each other in person. Never!” “Never?”, Rose said surprisingly. “No, never!” Jack too looked surprised. “I think that is interesting. Jack, tell me the whole story now.” Rose always loved love stories. She would sit under the starry sky and read love stories or Jack, who was the only friend she had got, would tell her curious stories. There was some unusual twinkling effect in her eyes. Jack wanted to kiss them but then he stopped. He sat beside her. Rose reclined her head on the swing. “Rose, I came across an old woman in the town today. She was a story teller. She said that it was the true story of her friends with whom she had studied in the college.” “Where’s she now, Jack?” “I don’t know. I was just walking down there at the beach and she was telling some young lovers that true love has nothing to do with physical contacts. True love is bound with the souls of two lovers. There are no meetings or partings when two hearts are beating in love. Te distance between them fades away and what remains is the nearness of the souls.” “Wow! So true!” Jack paused for a moment and looked at her twinkling eyes. Rose was smiling. Sometimes a gust of air blew her black and brown locks. “But some of them couldn’t understand what she was saying. They said to her, “We don’t believe in such love. If we don’t meet our loved ones for long the love itself fades away! Do you believe that love can go on without meeting each other?” “Yes! Love is beyond space and time. It reaches out the heart of the person that you are missing. Love binds two souls and not two bodies. It happened with my two friends who loved each other without knowing and seeing each other.” A girl told her to tell the story of her two friends. And when she had finished the story, everybody’s face was wet with tears. I thanked the old woman and ran to tell you the story. Se looked at my back until I was out of her sight.” Rose thanked him with her smiles. “Jack, what happened to the boy and the girl then?”

“Rose, it was a cold morning of December, 1988. The boy was lonely and sad that morning when he woke up. He lived with his uncle in a small house. His uncle had gone to the neighboring town to visit the Principal of the college there. He wanted to provide the boy with good education as he loved the boy as his own son. He had lost his own family in a snow storm some 18 years ago since then he had been taking care of the boy. The boy was always calm and busy doing the small tasks his uncle would give him to do.

“Postman! Hey, you boy! Where’s your uncle?” “He has gone out, postman uncle. Is there any mail for him?” “Yeah! Take it! Sign here.” “Thank you! I will give him the mail. Is there any for me too?” He looked at the postman with hopeful eyes. “No!” The postman was always a subject of curiosity for the boy. He always waited for some mail for him but he never got any. He used to think his fairy would write him.” “Fairy?” Rose interrupted with a curious eye. “Yes, fairy. He always dreamt of a fairy who loved him.

The boy felt gloomy. He dropped the mail in the mail-box. He walked for a while and then it started snowing. “O wow!!! It’s snowing! I love it!” He went inside and sat near his window to watch the snow-fall.

“O fairy! I wanna tell you. I love you!” He was singing a song that he himself had written. His eyes were searching for someone in the snow-fall. He looked around and found himself so lonely. He looked out through the window and plunged into some old memories. Some years ago… on a morning when it was snowing he caught a piece of paper flying. It had been blown there by the wind. There was something written on it in a nicely hand-writing. It had a short message which read:

“My prince, when will you come to me? I am waiting for you here. Come… life is so lonely without you near me. Now it is so hard to live just looking at the stars and finding myself all alone. I need your shoulder to put my head on. When will you come, say?

Yours Fairy.”

The boy looked around him to see if there was any girl near there. He went onto the roof and looked at some houses but no girl was there. He read the message again. There was a nice drawing of a rose just near her signature on the letter. He smiled and kept it in his pocket and went down where he was sitting before.

2 hours went by he fell asleep there. His sleep was broken when someone knocked at the door.

“Comiiiiiiing…! Oh Uncle! You are back!” “Yes, my son. I have some good news for you. You will be leaving by this evening. Now you will study in the college in the city. You have to get ready for it for you have to be present there tomorrow morning.” The boy was happy but when the time of leaving his home drew near he felt sad.

Now he was on his journey for the city. His uncle had made the arrangements for his stay at his friend’s house for the year. He reached there early in the morning. In an hour he decorated his room with his text-books, novels, story books, some pictures and paintings. There was a painting of a girl. He had painted it with beautiful colours. He titled it “Fairy”. He looked at the painting for a while and said, “See you soon!” Smilingly he went out to his new college.

It was the morning of 15th December, 1985, his first day there. Next to his right hand was sitting a lovely girl. She was nicely dressed up. “Hi! I am Emily.” She smiled at him and offered him a hand of friendship which he happily took in his hand. “Hi Emily! I am David.” “David, do you like poetry?” “Yes, I do. I just love poetry.” “Wow! Then you are my friend and you will have to read my poems!” She laughed but when she saw the class teacher coming she tried to suppress her laughter. David whispered in her ears, “I will, if you promise to smile and laugh always like this.” She felt some warm feelings in his words. This time she smiled and began drawing something on a paper.

David was sitting in his room looking out through the window. He was thinking of Emily. And then he took out the piece of paper from the pocket of his long black coat. He had kept the letter safe for so many years. He read it again and again. And he said to himself, “Come… life is so lonely without you near me.”

Next day he was coming back from the college with Emily. “Emily, where do you live here?” “I live with my parents. Just a few miles away from here. And you, David?” “With my uncle’s friend.” “Hey! You promised me that you would read my poems.” “Promised? O Yeah! I want to read your poems. When will you show them to me?” “Here it is. Take my dairy with you and return it soon.” “Yeah, thanks!”

It was breezing so cold outside. Standing by his window he was looking out holding the piece of paper in his one hand and in the other was the diary of Emily on which she had written “Dedicated to my Prince”. He read all her poems except the last one. He put the piece of paper inside the diary and as it was past midnight he went to his bed. The last poem was “Come… life is so lonely without you near me.”

The next day he returned the diary to her. Time just flew! They spent a nice time together. David was happy that he had found Emily. He could never tell her about his fairy. He kept his feelings hidden inside his heart.

In the college a girl named Agnes fell in love with David. She saw David sitting in the library and it was a break for the lunch. So, only David was in the library. She went inside and looking at him said, “Hi David! Are you not feeling hungry?” “O Agnes! How are you?” “I’m fine! But, boy, have you already taken your lunch?” “No, I haven’t. I was getting late for the college so I just forgot my lunch-box on my table in my room. But I’m not feeling hungry.” “If you like, let’s sit in the garden and finish my lunch-box together?” She wanted to take him out from the library to a place where she could tell her feelings to him. “No, thanks! Agnes, I want to read my uncle’s letter first. It arrived just this morning.” Nobody ever wrote him any letter except his uncle who would write him when sending some money. He was happy to have heard from his uncle. David opened the letter and began reading it. “David, you can read it there.” David smiled and went out with her. “Yes, there! Let’s sit there!” “What’s he written?” “Uncle wants to introduce a girl to me. He’s seen her for me. She is the daughter of my neighbouring aunt’s younger sister.” “For marriage?” Agnes was surprised. “Yeah! But I am gonna write him not to ask me for marriage again.” “That’s good! You can choose your own life-partner, can’t you, David?” “Yes, I can.” Agnes got happy now. “Let’s eat now! You will get weak if you don’t eat properly. Do you understand? You need a girl who can take care of you.” “No, I don’t need any.” “Why, David?” David wanted to leave her there and then. But then she said, “What happened, David? Let’s forget it! What are you going to do after you finish your study?” “I haven’t thought about it yet. I want to travel across the country.” “Great! I will accompany you!” “Then I had better travel back to my town and help my uncle.” David laughed out. Agnes understood the joke and laughed too. “O David! You are so funny! How I wish to be with you always! David, I just love you so much!” She said all that in one breath. David couldn’t understand what to say. He got up and started for the library. “What happened, David? Don’t I look pretty? Don’t you love me?” She held his hands tightly. “Agnes, I regard you as my friend. I already love someone else. I have to go now.” Agnes was a stubborn girl. She was not going to let him go so easily. “David, who’s she?” David thought for a while. He closed his eyes and smiled. “She is my kind of girl. She’s my fairy who loves me so much. I am waiting for her to meet me some day in my life.” “Fairy? Meet you some day? What do you mean? Have you never seen her?” “Yes, I have always seen her in my dreams. She calls me from a far away place where she’s waiting for me.” “David, are you mad or what? You love a girl whom you have just seen in your dreams and not in realty!” “She is not an ordinary girl. She is my fairy who will change my life and make it beautiful with her smiles.” “Oh! I just can’t get you! What are you talking, boy? Look at me. I love you and that’s the reality. Touch my hands and touch my face and you will feel how much I love you.” She wanted to wrap him with her arms. But David kept some distance from her. “Agnes, my fairy has become my life. And I believe that she will meet me soon. My heart tells me she is missing me somewhere. You will get a good life-partner. Better than me! Yes!” He stepped forward to go. Agnes held his hands again. “David, a girl whom you have never seen nor heard… who is totally a stranger to you… how can you stay in love with her forever?” She said pausing after each sentence, “Agnes, I see her in my heart. She is my soul. She is no stranger to me. I feel I have known her for ages.” Both of them stood quite for a few moments. “Agnes, how can I make a commitment with you when I have already promised her to be with her forever and for always…?” “But you haven’t seen her!” “Agnes, have you ever seen God?” “No!” “Then why do you still believe in Him?” Agnes had a ready answer. “Because my God lives in my heart. I can feel His presence everywhere I go.” “I am happy, Agnes, that you think so. But tell me, why do you still believe in Him when you can’t see Him?” David repeated his question with a smile on his face. “I can’t see God but He is near me. That’s my belief.” She seemed to know everything about God., “Agnes, will you change your God if you find some other one whom you can see?” “No! No ways! Why should I change my God? God is not a thing that I can take out of my heart and throw it away. God lives in my heart and He will always.” “Agnes, my fairy is my God whom I worship in my heart. If you can’t leave your God, how can I do that? No! No ways!” David smiled as he imitated her words. “Butttt… I…” David didn’t stand there long enough to hear her words. He went into his class room where Emily was waiting for him. “Hi, David!” She jumped on her stool. “Hi! Emily…” He said sitting beside her. “I’m happy that I met you. Because you always understand my feelings.” “Yeah! But why are you saying that?” She sensed there was something hidden in his heart. “Emily, you are my best friend in the whole world!”

David fell ill. He wasn’t able to attend his classes. Emily was feeling sad about it. Sarah, her classmate and friend, said, “Hey! You seem to be lost in the dreams of your prince!” Emily didn’t say anything. She was quite. “My prince is missing me. I can feel it in my heart. He is calling my name. Sarah, my prince is calling me.” “Hey, Emily! I can’t understand how crazily you love your prince whom you have never seen! You are crazy! Is there any scarcity of handsome and rich boys here in our college or town that you are running after a dream like this?” “Oh Sarah!” Emily’s voice was heavy, “He will come to me one day. And then you will see that my prince is different from other boys. He loves me more than any other man can ever do.” “Okay, princess! You won, I lost!” Both the girls laughed leaning on each other.

Sarah always liked Emily for her simple nature and for having an innocent heart. She was happy that there were still some people who could stay in love with one person and sometimes without even any meeting in person. Sarah wrote love stories which were very famous among her friends and in the town. Her stories would be based on some real theme. “Sarah, will you write my story?” “O Emily! Your story will be great! It will be the most unbelievable but true story that I have ever written. And if I live, I wish to see you with your prince.” Emily felt sad when Sarah said “if I live” for Sarah had got some incurable illness. But by God’s grace Sarah did live her life and became a story teller. “Yes, you will see him one day.” Emily smiled while holding Sarah’s hands tightly.

One evening David was throwing all his books and diaries here and there as he was searching for the letter. He sat in his chair his eyes were glittering. They had tears in them. He just forgot it that he had put the letter inside the diary of Emily. He sat in his chair covering his face with his hands. It was drizzling outside. He looked out through the window. There was a great thirst in his eyes. They were longing for his fairy. “Oh Fairy! Come and embrace me! Before the string of my breaths gets broken… come and take me with you to the place where our love breathes. I’m waiting for you… o my fairy!”

It was the farewell day in the college. Emily was walking with David. “Emily, I will miss you.” “When will you leave, David?” She said in a sad low voice. “By tomorrow morning.” David didn’t show any sign of sad feeling. He kept smiling. But in his heart he was sad as he didn’t want to leave Emily who had always been with him. Emily held his hands and looking into his eyes she said, “David, do you love me?” David could not think anything for a moment. “No!” “No, David?” She looked into his eyes but David avoided her eyes. “Emily, I love my fairy!” “Fairy?” “Yes, my fairy for whom I have been waiting so long.” Emily laughed out. “What’s funny about it?” “No, No! I am not laughing at you. I am laughing because you looked so confused when I ask you whether you loved me. I was just joking. But you never told me about your fairy before…?” She looked at him enquiringly. David said nothing for a while. They were now walking on a bridge. The natural beauty of the water stream always attracted Emily. She asked David to stop there for some minutes. They stood there talking to each other. “David, you see this river. Who knows how much thirst she has inside her heart?” “O Emily! You are so deep in your thoughts!” She smiled at him. “David, when will be our next meeting?” “I don’t know, Emily. Is there anything that you want to give to me to keep it with me?” “Yes, take this diary of mine. It’s my new collection of poems.” “O I will love to read your poems! Thank you Emily!” Emily was carving something on the wall of the bridge. “David & Emily - Forever”

That night Emily was in her room. She was thinking of someone whom she had always loved in her heart- her “prince” whom she never met. She was also wondering why she had asked David that question. She took her diary in her hands and stood by the window and was looking in the sky. The sky was clear and was looking beautiful. Emily felt her heart beating fast. She looked at the moon and pictured of her prince. The diary fell down onto the floor from her hands. She picked it up and saw the piece of paper inside it. She knew it- it was hers! She had written it so many years ago when she had gone with her parents to see her aunt, who was her mother’s elder sister, in the neighboring town from where David had come. “I was writing it when I was sitting under the tree outside the house. Mama called me as we were coming back here and I forgot this piece of paper there in a hurry.” She saw her own signature near her words “Yours Fairy”. “O My God! David loves his fairy! David loves me! I am his fairy! He is leaving by this morning.” It was past midnight that time. She could not sleep and kept crying the whole night.

David was looking out through the window. Sometimes he looked at the cover page of Emily’s Dairy. “Dedicated to my Prince” He read the title again and this time he began reading her poems. On the last page of the diary she had made a nice picture of a rose. David looked at it for a while. It reminded him of the rose that was on the letter. “This rose… Oh! I forgot the letter in Emily’s Diary!” He waited for the dawn to come soon as he wanted to go to Emily’s house and take the letter out from her diary. When it was dawn and he went to Emily’s house she was not there. Emily had already left her house. She had gone to see him. Emily was sad when she was told that David had already left. She was coming back. David left her house with a sad heart and took the bridge path. Emily was standing there looking at the river. David saw her from a few steps away. He went close to her and stood by her. Her hands were on the inscription “David & Emily - Forever” that she had made. She was so much lost in her thoughts that she couldn’t know that someone was standing right beside her. Emily said in a sad and gloomy voice, “Come… life is so lonely without you near me.” And David listening to her words whispered in her ears… “O fairy! I wanna tell you! I love you!”

Rose was crying when she heard the whole story. “What happened, Rose? Didn’t I tell you that the story would move your heart a lot?” “Jack, the story is so touching! They had loved each other so much without knowing each other! Without seeing each other!” “Yes, Rose. Love is a wonderful feeling!” Jack wiped her tears away and smilingly pressed her hands. It was dawn now. Rose and Jack went down and walked outside the house. “Rose, let’s go to your favourite place there the river-side.” “Yes, Jack. I love the river so much!” They went to the river-side hands-in-hands as they always did while walking. “Hey Jack! Look at that big fish! Its colours are so beautiful!” Jack was deep in his thoughts. Rose looked at his face and smiled. “Rose, we are here today. Tomorrow we don’t know where life will take us to. So, as long as we have today in our hands, let’s not slip it from our hands. Let’s live it!” “Yeah, Jack!” “Rose!” “Jack!” “Rose, will you throw me into this river, if I tell you I love you so much? Will you hold it true, if I say you are the one for whom I have been waiting for so many years? If I promise you that I will never ever lave your hands, will you marry me, Rose?”

In the next moment Rose was in Jack’s arms. The two young lovers were crying. Some pairs of beautiful fish were jumping in the river. Some pairs of birds were flying in the sky. That was how the pairs of the fish and the birds were showing their joyful feelings. For the most beautiful feeling of your heart can’t be expressed in words…! The wind began blowing so cool and the dust from the wall of the bridge left it revealing the inscriptions… “David & Emily - Forever”[/ALIGN]* * *

The Prince & The Fairy – II

* * *
"Rose!!!" "Yeah, Jack." "Have you prepared the meals? Or how long am I going to starve?" "Just a few seconds more." "O thanks!" "Jack, you behave like a kid." "Yes, Mama!" Jack couldn’t help laughing. "Shhhhh…!!! They will wake up! Don’t laugh so loudly." "O! That’s great! So we don’t have to worry if we get a little naughty now." "O come on, Jack! I have so many things to do. Today is our most beautiful day. They are getting 10 now. I have to make all the preparations to make their tenth birthday a beautiful remembrance forever." "But, Rose, just for a few moments let’s have some romance too." "No!" Jack turned his head down and sat in the chair. "O my Jack! You look so cute when you are angry." Rose laughed out. "Shhhhhh… not only they but also our neighbour’s children will wake up if you laugh so much loudly." This time the loving couple smiled while looking into each other’s eyes. Jack held Rose in her arms. "Rose, your eyes…" "What do you see in them, Jack?" "I see my life. My whole new wonderful world… so beautiful because of your lovely presence in it. Rose, when I look into your eyes you just imprison me in them. And I don’t want to be released any more. I just wanna be lost in your eyes…" He kissed her twinkling eyes tenderly. "Rose, I love you so much! I love you Rose!" Rose was just smiling while wrapping Jack with her arms. "Jack, never go away far from me. I will die without you. I love you too so much!" Jack felt her shoulder wet. He knew it was her tears. "Rose, you know I can’t see any tears in your eyes. Let me kiss your tears away..." "Jack, I cry now because I am so happy that you are with me." Jack held her hands in his. It started snowing then. "O wow! Hey Rose! Look out through the window! There!" "Jack, let’s go out and enjoy ourselves in the snow fall." "O Yes!!!" The two beautiful lovers were playing like kids in the snow fall while their two kids, Sarah and Arnie, were sleeping in their bed room. Sarah was just like her mother- beautiful and simple by nature. Arnie was adventurous and a music lover, just like his father. They were twins and 10 now. More than a decade has pass since Jack and Rose got married. But they still looked so young for their romance and true love had kept them a newly wed couple always.
Sarah’s little cat was wondering out in the garden that spread at the entrance of the small but beautiful house. It was drenched and went inside the house and jumped onto the bed of Sarah and Arnie. Sarah’s sleep was broken when the cat scattered the small snows off its body onto her face. "O Fiona!" Sarah turned her head and saw the snow falling through the window. She awoke Arnie to see it. "Arnie! Brother, get up! It’s snowing so beautifully! Wake up!" "Sarah, let me sleep, pleaaaaase." "Wake up, brother! See! It’s snowing!" "Hmm… where?" Arnie was still lying in the bed and his was covered. "There outside!" "Yes, it’s beautiful. Good night!" Arnie didn’t see the snow fall. He just answered her. "Yes, it’s so beautiful!" She didn’t know that Arnie was not looking at the snow fall. "Arnie…!" "Oh! You are sleeping and I thought you had got up." "Get up!" She threw the blanket away. Arnie was helpless because Sarah never knew to give in. He had to do what she had set her mind on. Arnie this time opened his eyes and wondered at the beauty of the snow fall. "Sarah! Let’s tell Mom and Dad." "Yes!" Both of them went out of their room and went into the next room. "Mamaaaaa!" Sarah and Arnie were shouting loudly. "Where are they?" "Sarah, let’s go upstairs." "Yes!" "Oh no! They aren’t here too." Arnie showed a sign of disappointment. "Where can they be now?" "Hey Sarah! Listen! Mama’s voice!" "They are there in the garden! Look at them!" "O wow! Arnie, let’s join them." "Wait! Who will touch them first? 1… 2… 3…." Both of them ran to touch their Mom and Dad and be the first to touch them.
"Rose, don’t throw any snows on me now. Oh! I am so much tired. You ran so fast always. I can’t ever catch you." Rose laughed a lot. "Jack, come and lift me up in your arms. I can’t stand on my feet now." Jack went near her. "Mamaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa…!" Sarah was running towards Rose. "Daddddddddddddd…!" Arnie was following her. "Dadddd give me your handddddddd… Sarah mustn’t winnnn…!" "Oh, I can’t help you my son. These ladies will never let us win." All of them laughed when Sarah touched her Mom. The heaven above seemed to be happy to see such a lovely and happy family. Sarah and Arnie began throwing snows on each other. Rose was looking at them while her eyes had her lovely smiles in them. Jack held her hands and made her sit down on the grass. "Rose, do you remember once I told you that even after 10 years of our marriage you would not find any change in my love for you. Look at our kids. And look at us. We are so happy all together. Rose, I will love you so much even when your hair will turn white like this snow. Rose, you are still 18 in my eyes. That simple, beautiful and naughty girl… my lovely baby! Rose, I am so happy to have got your in my life. Thank you for always being there for me." Rose had no words to say. She kept smiling and put her head on Jack’s shoulders.
