Overheard in a wi-fi cafe. "I just googled it with Bing, but it wasn't as good."

I guess that tells me two things. One, I'm not the only person who thinks Google is better than Bing, and two, that Google has now got so big that its name has now become synonymous with 'search'.
To me Google used to be the ordinary geeks who took on the internet and won, but just like all the others it's been absorbed. Google Analytics is now just one more of those companies looking over your shoulder as you surf.
That would be bad enough, but people looking over your shoulder are now beginning to interfere with your behaviour. This blog was started in a wi-fi hotspot (The cafe mentioned in the title... Oh, you guessed that...). When you log in to the hotspot there is a little log on message that the internet connection is sponsored by Microsoft. If your first task is to do a Google search, you are instead sent to Bing (This is new, it used to send you to 'Ask').
This was, of course, the reason why my fellow surfer had 'googled with Bing'. She may have been a little puzzled, but I don't think she was overly concerned, she was one of the majority of surfers who have no idea what's going on behind their screens. A few minutes earlier she'd asked me if I was on the internet because she couldn't get on. I asked her what browser she was using, thinking that if she was using Opera, then Opera's notorious securitiness does make the initial loggon a little difficult.
She had no idea what I was talking about.

Actually that last one could work. Must look and see if it still exists.
