The last of the funk powered trains...

Disaster? What disaster?

, , , , ,

Soooo....

Channel 1 - Wedding
Channel 2 - Snooker
Channel 3 - Wedding
Channel 4 - Noel Bloody Edmunds
Channel 5 - US made movie about the wedding

Yesterday in the USA they had 164 major storms in 24 hours. The death toll is in the hundreds. You'd never have known if you'd watched Channel 5 news. Every item in both its evening bulletins was wedding related. Channel 4 did slightly better, in its 7:00pm news hour it found just under 5 minutes in its 'meanwhile in other news' slot to mention "Storms across the USA" before going back to the wedding.

"Wedding still on." What kind of news is this? It's not news, it's not even a news update. "Wedding cancelled." Now that would be news. "Storms in USA kill hundreds", now that really is news.

On the other hand, American citizens seem to be more interested in the wedding than in their compatriots back home as well. There was certainly no sign of concern amongst all the USians in the crowds as they squealed their appreciation of the gorgeous king of England in waiting, and the second item on ABC news after the disaster was the "British royal wedding".

Doh.

To AV or not to AV? That is the question. This is why I put a question mark after it in fact. The mourning after the day before

Same eveywhere, the news people have to milk it for every penny. I watched for about 5 minutes this morning. It was on every (I mean EVERY) station here. And probably we'll be seeing recaps, reruns and revisitations of it, all labelled, "Breaking News" for months to come!

I did not know about the storms until I spoke to a US based friend who had woke up 4am to watch the, wedding.

The worlds lost the word.

Lois: It's crazy. I thought it was a joke but in all seriousness apparently the US TV news outlets really did ask the palace if they'd put the wedding back to a more US news-friendly hour.

Dapxin: "The world's lost the word". I like that:) And if you take 'word' out of 'world' you're left with L.

Which is where I sometimes think we're all headed...
