Little letter block wallpaper

,

I felt like making a new wallpaper today, so i found a crappy image with Google image search and played with it a bit. Of course I had to do a take on the Opera logo again; my imagination runs on a really empty tank these days.

For those interrested, I removed the really nasty jpeg artifacts in Photoshop with Filter > Noise > Reduce Noise..., then scaled the image up really much (to 1600x1600px) and ran a Filter > Blur > Lens Blur and added some monochrome gaussian noise as well as some blur. I then swapped the red and blue channels and tweaked the colors some more to get the blue color a nice red one. Not happy with the texture, I overlayed the painted area with a wooden high-res texture. On top of that I added a slight bevel/emboss layer effect and another vague texture.

The Shadow is just a horizontally motion blurred oval shape repeated a couple of times with some different scaling to imitate the shadow getting fainter away from the cube. I burned the bottom edges of the cube and copied the whole thing, flipped it around vertically and masked it with a gradient and removed that part to make a nice reflection. For the background I simply made a radial gradient with a center below the block.

See the attached psd file if you would like to tweak or play with this. Have fun!

Pimp your Opera shortcut

Tired of that ugly default Opera Icon on your desktop? Hey! You haven't hidden it alltogether, have you? No matter, because today you can do your computer a favor and replace it with something far better. I give to you the pimped O!

Simply save this shiny Logo in .ico format somewhere you'll find it again, say in your Opera installation folder or something, and replace it for that fugly default one. In Windows, you simply right click on the desktop icon, select 'Properties' and 'Change icon...'. Find the newly saved icon and voila! Shinyness shines upon ya! :D

A leeetle tutorial on making a nice banner background

, , , ...

This is really so easy compared to the awesomeness of the result, I thought I'd better make a tutorial of it. It's a good way to start getting to know the layer effects in Photoshop, because the result here opens for further play and experimentation. But 'nuff talk, let's get down and dirty!

More banners!

All the positive respons on the Transformers banners made Espenao boiling over with joy. And with work for me.

We sat down and came up with some more general ideas that I could work on. Not the most advanced stuff, more Photoshop fun than design really, but the banners might spark some ideas among you guys perhaps?

Thanks to Nikio and pntruongan for two of the images I stole for these! :raider: Really talented photogrphers both of them.

Transformers banners

, ,

I have today a new banner on my blog. That is because I was asked to make some for the community by espenao himself. :drunk: Head over to the mothership and get one yourself.

Of course, since I made the originals, I couldn't resist hack my own work to my own benefit. Hah! :raider:

The logo is actually based on the Opera logo's O shape. Try and lay them toghether, you'll see. With that shape I played a bit with lines cutting and slicing the O, until it all resembled something that could come out of the Transformers universe.

Hope you like!

Shiny fanbOi wallpapers

It's about that time again. You need to get rid of that old, scruffy wallpaper and replace it with some shiny new one. I made this take on the Opera logo a while back, and felt it deserved not to get stuck in some obscure corner of my hard disk. Hopefully you'll enjoy it, and put it to grace your monitor(s) as well.

The final Wii browser is out!

After a long and painful wait on my behalf, the 'Internet Channel' on Nintendo Wii is out in its final version. It really is a great browser, and I'm extremely proud to have been a part of it.

mii!

I found this cool flash version of the mii-channel that lets you create mii-avatars and save them as jpg files. It's monday today, and the resulting self portrait sort of reflects that, so I recommend you do this when feeling more colorful than I felt when I made mine. :D

Well, it took me two days to finish a new concept. This time it's Zorro who's been used for inspiration. Enjoy!
