This and that worthy the effort

The final Wii browser is out!

[/IMG]After a long and painful wait on my behalf, the 'Internet Channel' on Nintendo Wii is out in its final version. It really is a great browser, and I'm extremely proud to have been a part of it.

Firstly and most importantly for me is the sleek design of the thing. From the beta, we've made everything tighter designwise without losing touch with neither the beta or the Wii OS. Among other things, the chrome is smaller than in the beta and it has more buttons. We joined the back/forward buttons in a pill shape to group them and clearly communicate the function of those buttons.

Communication has been a main focus for me in the design, as the browser will be used in very different parts of the world. How do you communicate to a grandmother on the other side of the globe "-if you press this button, you'll be able to type a URL"? The symbols on the buttons must tell her that somehow, either immediately or after a very brief explanation.

The style had to fit with the rest of Nintendos Wii theme, and I was very pleased when we released the beta to see it was somehow quite a nice fit. It now is even a bit better, and allthough you can hide the toolbar because it is in the way, take a brief moment to watch its beauty first. wink

Good job up

(However, the scroll arrows are silly. Yes, read about the Nintendo reasoning behind it. Some very few couldn't figure out how to scroll. But once they get it, they get annoying. Should be a setting that gets rid of them, the arrows wink )

Anyway, congrats party

Thanks! smile

I think I speak on behalf of all Opera employees when I say I agree. Totally! That's what has been so frustatingly fun about this project: A gaming company and a browser company fighting for their ideas. Some few ideas aren't that brilliant, of course, but overall the whole browser is packed with new solutions we never would have thought of all by ourselves.

Kudos on the Wii browsers, I've been using the trial one for a while and love the final version. The Wii is first to put YouTube on my TV. I heart OperaWii
