Meeting with bears.

We often think, that wild life is something on the screen of TV with Discovery channel. When You meet really dangerous creatures You feel shock, you understand, that You are really not ready for this meeting and You do not believe in reality of all this... It was a very short voyage from our base camp in Siberia. 5 people, 5 horses, no guns, one DVB camera... Nobody thought, that in a distance of 4 kilometers from the camp we will meet big mother bear with 3 young fellows. We (people and bears) were really shocked - we saw each other at the same time from distance of 5 - 6 meters!!!!! We were lucky, that mother decided to go away - maybe she thought, that loudly crying man on a horse is a too big animal to attack... Sorry for quality - I kept camera in left hand - right were used to "stabilize" the horse.

:yikes: That must have been scary, but thanks for being able to see the video.
I'm glad you didn't meet them again!

Me too! The issue is, that bear use to go away, if he meets the man in taiga during summer. Mother with children attack with 80% probability. That's why we were crying VERY loudly to frighten here first.

I hope that I never will meet a bear, but I love to see them on tv. I guess your hearts were beating wildly. I'm impressed you managed to videotape the bears.

I lost about 6 - 7 seconds to pull my camera bag from my back, to get camera out and start shooting. You can see their speed - they run for about 100 m for that time.

They were probably even more startled than you!

Where I go riding in Canada, the guides tell me that their horses are used to meeting bears on the trail. I've never seen a bear of any species from horseback.

Horses were trained a bit too, but, as You can see, forest at that place were under fire several years ago. Alot of dead trees are still on the ground and moving there without horses is totally impossible. Horses can easily be injured by broken branches and You could not give them any opportunity to became afraid or move fast. That's why horse control was VERY important that time.

Yes, I can imagine. You would certainly need a horse who you could trust.

And if You ride him only for 3 days before this meeting? Really tricky
