Rice Dumplings!

home-made rice dumplings(Zhong Zi)

On the Fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, the Rice Dumpling festival was observed by the Chinese. This festival was also known as Duan Wu Jie in Mandarin. This festival is celebrated in memory of an ancient Chinese court official Qu Yuan.He was a subject of Chu kingdom during the Warring States Era.Due to some jealous and corrupt officials frame Qu Yuan and the Chu king has Yuan dismissed. For failing to heed Yuan's advice, the king soon saw his kingdom being conquered by the powerful Qin kingdom. After that,Yuan was so upset over his country's demise that he commit suicide by jumping into the Mi Luo River.SOOn the peasants tried to find Yuan's body in the river.they even tried to wrap sticky rice in bamboo leaves and throw into the river hoping that the fishes of the river will eat the wrapped rice instead of Yuan's body. But they failed to find Yuan's body.So the future generations decided to hold Dragon Boat races across the seas and cook tasty rice dumplings to honor Lord Qu Yuan.
In this tine of the year,My Mum will prepare rice dumplings by using pork, with mushrooms and wrapped with sticky rice and then steamed the dumplings. The result? Nice and soft sticky rice witn decilious and sweet pork fillings in tjhe insides.I can't forget the taste of the dumplings. .AS i was eating the dumplings,i will remember Lord Qu Yuan!:king: Statue of Qu Yuan, Duan Wu Jie celebrations at Waterloo Street
