The reason for my insanity as of late.

Hey Everybody. I've been in a really weird mood the last couple of weeks, and you can probably tell by the ridiculous blog entries. I will work on writing a bit more and attempt to explain things better. I'm very angered by our country, obviously. I'm also tangled up in thoughts concerning a business I want to start.

It all starts with a couple of websites. One is devoted to selling local art to help support all of the great starving artists in my community and the other will be devoted to Chocolate City Cycles. (Spawned from the Parliament Funkadelic album, not Ray Nagin!) On this site, you can purchase anything from a restored "beater" for around $60 to a custom chromed out chopper for around $800. Single speeds only! With skyrocketing gas prices and obesity, I think bikes are a great solution. We will also offer a line of motorized bikes. They came out with a new four-stroke engine that gets 150 miles to 1/2 a gallon, and the bike goes up to 35mph!

I plan for each one of these websites to branch out, and I'm planning on hosting events to bring people in. Rudy, the bike builder, is gonna start the New Orleans chapter of "Wild Mustangs”, a non-exclusive bike club that focuses on community and social justice. Eventually, we want to start a Pedicab (bike cab) business down here cuz parking sucks.

The Crescent City Art Collective (working on the name) will focus on coalition building and getting unknown artists some exposure. We will have monthly exhibits with live music in the park. I've already found a cool lawyer to work on getting permits and kegs of beer! Aarrgh! This is my favorite part. Community building is what I'm all about. So many communities in the U.S. ignore themselves, as they trudge through the "trivialities of everydayness". Everyone's so absorbed with their next paycheck or their problems; they never take time out to visit with one another. You never have to look far for help when you have a great relationship with your neighbors.

In the long run, I want to form "The Greater New Orleans Independent Business Alliance" (still working on the name) This would form a solid union of locally owned businesses which would be a formidable political ally, and its' goal would be to protect the livelihood of the locals and keep the tax revenue here.
Ultimate goal, cultural sustainability for New Orleans!

Pretty big goals for this little pirate, but without goals we're just lost at sea.
