The Hub.

In the constantly shifting world of New Orleans, there are an infinite number of unknowns.
One must set goals, stay a general course and choose a new direction every hour. I laid out a very general plan for myself, working backwards. I picked a couple of preliminary goals, and I started workin towards them. Pretty common, but God always smiles on me for some reason.
I’ve done it!

I unknowingly stumbled into “The Hub”.

I was farting around on Craigslist a few days ago, and ran across an ad for an internship.
I responded with an email and within minutes was planning on meeting J. Z., an entertainment lawyer down here. He has represented the estate of Professor Longhair
(A New Orleans icon) for the past fifteen years and is currently representing Dr. John.

Anyways... This is the perfect beginning of a beautiful relationship, and it will allow me to network like never before! We’re already planning on starting a couple of neighborhood organizations to insure we can get a piece of the 4.2 billion dollars that was just approved to be sent down here. Rather than go through the city, ( which is extremely corrupt, just so you know) these monies distributed by HUD are destined to go directly to the community. That’s my role right now. Organizing.

We’re setting up shop in a five-story office building in the French Quarter, which has been owned by his family for years. On the bottom floor is the
Louisiana Music Factory, which you should check out. On the second floor, there’s tons more vinyl and our office.
The third, fourth, and fifth floors are unoccupied and up for grabs. The best part about this? It’s our input that will determine how these will be developed!

WWOZ, the official New Orleans radio station, was displaced by Katrina and is currently broadcasting from above the French Market in the French Quarter. They have expressed interest in relocating to our building and bringing with them a recording studio!
That will bring more in high-end clientele.

The fourth and fifth floors will tentatively be rock-star condos. ($10,000 dollars a weekend type of things)

Obviously, New Orleans needs a thriving entertainment industry, all the hospitals back on line, (the boundaries of the neighborhood organization I’m working on include the largest hospital zone, including satellite offices, in the city), and a solid coalition of local businesses.

This all plays into my original plan of starting a couple of local businesses, and going from there. But it’s gonna be way easier now!

It's funny how things have been falling in line for me lately. A couple of months ago, I wrote a post called "A snake belongs in the swamp" and how I felt myself mysteriously drawn here.
How was I to know that an epic national disaster would eventually set me up to be some kind of czar in the near future? I don't know, but I'm definitely gonna work on keeping NOLA as weird as me from here on out.

Hope to see you sashaying down the avenue soon. Stop by my office at 210 Decatur St. St. A, and I'll pour you a drink.....

Love and Peace,

Dillon
