Borsodi's House

, ,

My life is consistently interesting. I've decided to move out of my apartment. I need a change of scenery. My room mate moved out, rent is going up in June, and I need a back yard to so I can start up my Biodiesel Factory. I had a yard sale today, well, for the first hour. Then I got lazy and just stuck a "free stuff" sign in the yard and went upstairs.

While people were swarming my yard, I slipped out and went to check out a house I found on Craigslist.
It turns out that it wasn't just a house. It's an old coffee shop. Words couldn't describe the hodge podge of signs, poetry, and art that clings to every square inch of the space. It's called Breezy's Place, and I'm moving in.

Here's what one New Orleanian had to say when asked what the greatest coffee shop in the world was:

"Breezy's Place! Originally one of New Orleans original crack houses, transformed into a changing colored kaleidoscope and spiritual living room of all New Orleans.
This grand institution was located on Soniat Street across from a baseball field over grown with weeds. Its proprietor, Robert Otto Borsodi, looked like Rip Van Winkle on mushrooms and was a: former U.S marine, Yalie, Socratic poet, freight train jumper- when it was time for a change of scenery-, radical artist, revolutionary, and play write.

Actually, Borsodi cast several theatrical productions- free of charge- at Breezy's Place before he got sick, so unfortunately I never witnessed one. But when the pain got too annoying one morning, he transitioned out by jumping off Hale Boggs Bridge into the Mississippi River, but not before penning a haiku honoring his Dogue de Bordeaux, Maddy. His funeral was held at night so that all who loved him,
including a few vampires and ghosts, could attend. I've never had a cappuccino with so much life in it! RIP Borsodi.
Well I guess there's always Cafe Du Monde in the French Quarter."

The only way to describe my new home is to take pictures. I'll post those soon. I made a deal with Bob's son to take care of everything since it's a landmark and all. In other words, I can't throw anything away, because everything in the building is culturally important. This will be a challenge in the coming months. I'm planning on having bands play gigs there and also having plays and poetry readings a couple of times a month. I figure Bob would approve.

If you've got a little time, read about this fascinating human here:

This is gonna be awesome.
