New Orleans has always been a magnet for creative souls. Ever since I started building movie screens and helping my neighbor out on documentaries and stuff, I've been meeting more and more of them. New Orleans is quickly morphing into a hub for the film industry and I'm right in the thick of it. I hope to weave my design company into this fabric and use it as a launching point for the wherever the heck it takes me.
Currently, there's a film crew in my house shooting a short foreign film called "Mon Reve Familier" or "My Familiar/Recurring Dream". Director Jimmy Ferguson heads up Homeless Man Productions, a locally based film company, and upon seeing my wickedly psychedelic lair, decided to use it for his film. It's about a dejected clown and a beautiful trapeze artist. That's all I'll say about it for now. It parallels my life a bit actually.
Anyways, there's a trapeze hanging over my bed now, and a 35mm Russian beast-of-a-camera 3 meters to my right. It's really exciting to watch the process and to meet all of these crazy indie film people. I think I'm gonna write a script soon. Why not? Maybe get into some acting?
I did make my comedic debut in front of the camera last weekend. We're starting a fake news network to cover the goings-on in New Orleans. It's gonna be called NO News. "NO News is Good News..." The website is not up yet, but it's coming soon. The first bit we did involved two gutter punks panning for oil in the Mississippi River after 400,000 gallons was dumped into it after a barge wreck. We capitalized on the situation by scraping it out and selling on Decatur Street for two bucks a gallon. We also tried putting it in peoples cars. A chick from the local improv group acted as the reporter and she was great. It was damn funny. We've got tons of ideas and the coming months will be filled with massive amounts of hijinks. I've always wanted to use that word.
So, soon I'll have a short documentary covering the history of Breezy's Place. NO News is going online in the next month or so. And "Mon Reve Familier" will be done shooting on Thursday, followed by editing and such. Don't know when that will be available, but it's coming. Exciting stuff...
