Spreadin' it Thin

Howdy everybody.
Man, I've been really busy. I'm now working on starting yet another business. Last year, I had an idea to start an organization called "Keep New Orleans Weird" (K.N.O.W.) but I balked. Well, It's a reality now. We kicked it off in a small and almost forgotten park in the middle of my neighborhood. It's named after Sophie B. Wright, a great educator in New Orleans in the early 20th century. For the last few years, our neighborhood has been rotting and the park has been dubbed "The Bum Park".
However, the past couple of months have brought a surge of new residents and businesses. The community is crawling out of a hole. There's never been a better time to dive back in to activism and reinvigorate myself doing what I love. Organizing and Art.
Over the past few days, I organized the local businesses and neighbors, got permits to use the park, and built a movie screen.
Local businesses chipped in the money to rent the park and the city actually showed up earlier in the week to pick up trash, mow the grass, and trim the bushes.
Thus, the first "Walk-in Movie Night at Sophie B. Wright" was born.
We had BBQ and drinks for everyone and it was a blast.
We had anywhere from 70 - 80 people show up... Not bad for the first time.
We had such a great response, we're gonna start doing this the first Saturday of every month..
This is important in todays' New Orleans. Ever since the storm, people have been detached from themselves and their neighbors. They've been caught up in their own problems and need
a break so that they can feel like part of a community again.
I tell ya, it's amazing what an idea and a clipboard can accomplish.
It'll be another month until the next event, so I'll finally have time to do some recording. Hopefully in the next day or two. Peace.

Too little of that in the world IMO.
You´re doing a great and necessary thing.

My head has been exploding with ideas for years now, but I haven't been acting on them. This was easy though! You'd be surprised at how many people immediately jumped on this and offered to help. People are scared to act on their own ideas these days. Someone simply needs to stand up and start it and watch the others line up.
Maybe South Africa is not much different...
