Many PlayStation 3 users know that the Internet Browser (Access NetFront) for the PlayStation 3 console (by Sony) is not good. A lot of websites either won't render completely or won't render at all. Many users have written to Sony via the
PlayStation Community Forums and have even submitted the idea for an update or an upgrade of the Internet Browser via the
PlayStation.Blog Share. So far, nothing has happened.
Rumors have surfaced online about Sony and Mozilla developing Firefox for the PlayStation 3, but they were dismissed.
Even the Opera Developers created
Opera for PlayStation 3 (a Linux (OtherOS) edition).
Recently, Sony has selected Opera for their Bravia LCD series and Blu-Ray players (
Opera chosen by Sony for LCD television and Blu-ray Disc players) which, to me, was a surprise and the best choice.
So now, many (including me) PlayStation 3 users are left wondering about what's going to happen with the current Internet Browser for the PlayStation 3. Will Opera make an appearance and replace the current Internet Browser on PlayStation 3?
I am hoping for Sony to bring the Opera browser to PlayStation 3 (and future PlayStation editions) as it would be a perfect choice. Opera is 100% web standard compliant, the browser is small (smaller than the current web browsers on PC and Mobile), the rendering engine is blazing fast (equal or faster than the current web browsers on PC and Mobile), and more secure than the current web browsers on PC.
So now I ask you (the viewer) and Opera users to please write to Sony asking, suggesting, begging for them to release Opera for the PlayStation 3. You can contact Sony via
Contact Us or via Twitter @Sony and/or @PlayStation.
Edit: I forgot to add that the Opera Developers are waiting for Sony to get in contact with them. Below are the links (from Haavard's blog).
