Ghost Riders
6 images
The Ghost Riders are one of the finest true country acts around. The term Country music has taken a different, more commercial meaning than it really should. The newer term Roots Rock describes more of the feel of the Ghost Riders.
Regardless of how you categorize them, they are a great group of guys who are outstanding musicians and enjoy playing their brand of music. If you like Commander Cody, Asleep At The Wheel, New Riders of the Purple Sage or Hank Williams, you'll like their music. And when it comes to requests, they can play almost anything close to their style.
I recorded them for a podcast recently and they obliged me with an almost 90-minute set of mostly original songs. These photos were taken there at the Sportsmans Tavern.
Gretchen Schulz

After the Music Is Art festival, I headed over to the Sportsman's Tavern to see Gretchen Schulz with the Morvels play.
I think half the people at the MIA fest had the same idea. It was packed. But it was worth it.
Gretchen was outstanding. She did a version of Janis Joplin's "Cry Baby" that I will laways think of whenever I hear that song again.

Rhubarb Family Picnic

Well, extended family! Rhubarb threw a really cool party and overnight campout in Hartland at a place called Freedom Park (Remember that name, there's an even bigger music festival there later this summer.)
I went down Friday night and stayed until the music stopped - about 4AM. I meant to go back Saturday for even more music, but was just so whipped after staying up over 24 hours.
But it was a great time and I met and recorded some bands I had wanted to meet for a while.
Sweatin' Like Nixon, Qualia, Rhubarb, Thought, Anal Pudding, and many more were all there.

The Seldom Herd Songwriters put on another shwocase May 13, 2006 at the Lockport Palace Theater.
A number of singer-songwriters demonstrated their talents to the audience's delight.
A highlight of the show was a farewell appearance by Chris Nathan, former member of Woke Up In Vegas, who was to move to Nashville the following morning to start a new job and career as a professional song writer.
