How to Automate Downloading from Usenet!
Saturday, 17. September 2005, 20:51:44
Usenet is (and has always been) a ''secret'' place for the Internet elite, it has always been used to swap large amounts of data. Although using Usenet is definitely rewarding (think along the lines of downloading movies, music and games at max speed!) it can be complicated and requires some time on a daily base. This guide is aimed at making Usenet as easy as possible the end result will allow you to create one folder to store NZB's that will be downloaded, checked and extracted automatically! No more RARing, PARing and other stuff
Required :
Basic Usenet Knowdege (this is NOT a ''my first usenet download'' guide!)
Windows (I'm using XP SP2 but any windows will do)
Newsleecher (Other programs might work but I'm on a tight budget and can only afford one!)
RarSlave
Index
Step 1
Starting newsleecher at windows startup
Auto connecting when NZB's are found
Step 2
Downloading NZB's
Auto importing NZB's
Step 3
Auto starting Rarslave
Step 1 :
I assume that you have Newsleecher up and running and can download stuff, if not use google the're many guides explaining that.
Go to the folder where you have installed Newsleecher (default is : C:\Program Files\NewsLeecher2) and create a shortcut using right click > create shortcut. Copy this short tcut to the ''startup'' folder in the startmenu (default is : C:\Documents and Settings\account name.computer name\Start Menu\Programs\Startup). Congratulations Newsleecher will now startup automatically! Unfortunately you will still have to minimize newsleecher to tray but that shouldn't require to much work.
Open Newsleecher and go to ''Options > Download > NZB files > and enable ALL options! Change the folder to something nice if you want or keep the default.
Settings
Step 2 :
Create a account (if required) on one of these sites and download some NZB's :
http://www.nzbzone.com
http://www.newzmonster.com
http://www.alt.binaries.nl
http://binsearch.info
http://nzbsrus.com
http://tvnzb.com
http://nfonews.com
http://newsreactor.net
http://nzb-world.com
Make sure to download them to the folder specified in step 1 (default : c:\NZB Auto Import Folder\).
Some NZB's
See! That was pretty easy
Step 3 :
The downloaded files are probably in .rar format and have a few .Par2's dont worry about those files RARSLAVE will take care of that! However running RARSLAVE involves work and that's something we dont want. So install RARSLAVE and create a shortcut like this :
Target : "C:\Program Files\Rarslave\rarslave.exe" "C:\Program Files\NewsLeecher2\downloads\"
Run : Minimized
Ofcourse you have to edit the ''target'' as needed
Then goto My Computer > Control Panel > Scheduld Tasks and create a new task :
Next > Browse > select your shortcut > Perform this task : daily > Start time : Pick a time when the PC is running > enter your password > finish!
Rarslave will now automaticly check your download directory and repair and extract your downloads, everyday on the time specified! All you have to do is download some NZB's to your download folder. You might want to check Rarslave once in a while to un-pause some PAR2 files if needed.
