Tab Stacking Saved Me Today

, , , , , ,

Tab Stacking is saving my sanity right now. This is a screenshot of Opera 11 with 39 tabs open, many of them are stacked in small groups based on the project they relate to. I thought I'd share because I know a lot of people don't know about this awesome feature.

By trimming it to 17 visible tabs, I can still see what I'm working on, and my progress continues.

More than 70 tabs on my little machine. With another copy of Opera running on a second screen off to the side. With 9.64 I could go over 400 tabs on a 1.6GHz Celeron M with XP and 2GB memory; in 11.01 with extensions, I am pushing the limit with 100 tabs on an Atom N280@1.73GHz with XP and 2GB memory. To be fair, the sites I visit are often heavier than before.

That's some serious stacking.

On a huge monitor (1600 pixels or wider), the Panelized bookmarks reach their full potential. I have Documents\PDFs as a bookmark, and can view PDF files in the Panel while working inside the browser. The "Make it So" extension also works inside the Panel, but that's useless unless Panelized bookmarks gain a Back button.

Odd & Even would be proud.

I said that a while back. This tab-compression totally seems like an odd'n'even thing. Also, I still hope that Opera will support stack-sharing. Because that man's visual proposition was just that good.
