Dancing Break

OK here's some dancing for you!
I call fairly regularly so have to find new dances for my audience on a regular basis. I have various printed and on-line sources but the material doesn't always fit nicely to the dancers. Here are two adaptations I have made:
OFF SHE GOES AGAIN (3 Couple Set)
Originally – Longways Triple Minor - “Off She Goes” from the Selling manuscript.
Music – fits to “Errol on the Green”
A1 1-3 1stC lead down the middle (1stM gives his right hand to W left);
4 Turn W under (do NOT change places);
5-7 Lead (skip) up to top of set;
8 Cast into 2nd place (2ndC move up).
A2 1-4 1st & 3rdC right hand star (at the bottom);
5-8 1st & 2ndC left hand star (at the bottom).
B1 1-8 Contra corners
B2 1-4 Hands 6 half-way;
5-8 Bottom C continue (anti-clockwise) to top position proper;
WHILE Top & Middle C two-hand turn, moving down one place.
NOTES – (a) After round one the progression is 2-3-1
(b) In B2(5-8) w follow M Indian file around outside of set.
(c) Contra corners is a common move in American Contra (which I also call) and
can be found in English dances like “Bonny Breastknot”.
COMMENTS - (a) Instructions for post A music were “ B All turn partners both hands”.
This gives a very odd number of bars – makes me think part of the manuscript is missing!
(b) Triple minors are always a problem for me as they require quite a long set to make them work.
In addition changing from being 2ndC to 3rdC (or visa-versa) often confuses people)
(c) I was given a photocopy of the Selling manuscript many, many years ago so I have no idea who,
if anyone, holds the copyright. If anybody does please let me know and I will delete this item.
OLDHAM ROUNDABOUT (4 couple set)
Original – “Star Inn” by John Hyland. Published in English Dance & Song by EFDSS
Music - “Sweets of May” (or other 48 bar)
A1 1-4 Lines forward and back;
5-8 Right had turn person on diagonal right (otherwise stand).
A2 1-4 Lines forward and back;
5-8 Left hand turn person on diagonal left (otherwise stand)
B1 1-8 Middle C circle Right the Left;
WHILE end C pass partner (by the left) and skip all the way round.
NOTES – (a) B2/C1/C2 – as original
COMMENTS – (a) Sorry cannot print out 2nd half of dance as EFDSS is pretty hot on copyright.
(b) If you cannot find the original feel free to graft on any figures you like.
(c) My adaptations are freely available to anyone for non-commercial usage.
Enjoy trying these out!
