Common sense vs belief

Religion is a modern day Idol in Nigeria. I call it a modern day idol because many, except a few now worship the religion and not the God. Nowadays, all sorts of crime found in a society without God are now found in the churches and mosques. I say churches and mosques because they both represent a largest percentage of religious institutions in Nigeria. Corruption, hate bribery, rape, intolerance and even philandering e.t.c in the name of God is now the order of the day.
For example, early yesterday morning, I woke up to a loud sound from a megaphone of a nearby church placed "outside" the church. It was so loud I couldn't sleep no more. I don't understand why churches and mosques in Nigeria place speakers outside the church when the worshippers are inside the church or mosque. Its so contradictory and the situation is appalling.
And just as I was grumbling of being forced out of bed, I heard the "pastor" call about 5 people out and telling them to come with some amount of money, maybe 7,000 or 70,000 naira, I'm not really sure. All I'm sure of is its a multiple of 7 and its in its thousands. Apparently the service had been going on for a while. He instructed them to put it in a white envelope and come with it next service. I was wondering, was that God talking or the pastor?...Of course only God and his angels know. Does the pastor care or not if the men have the said amount of money? I guess the answer is NO. "God is not an extortionist, all he needs is your heart and not your money". At least that's what a good pastor has made me understand.
I am not a "deep" christian but I easily know that if I pray to God, he hears me. And I know I don't have to go sleep with one fake pastor before I can conceive a child (in the case of a barren woman), or bring 5 black candles or do shit that's not in the bible before something can happen for me.
Unscrupulous elements of the society have now realised the manipulative susceptibility of Nigerians, and so they establish mosques and churches, and control these people like herds. These days some people who don't know jack about their faith are even prepared to kill others in the name of their religion. A fake imam will on a friday order the eviction and killing of un-believers, and nobody will think twice before carrying out the command. All he just needs to say is that God said they should do it.
And there's also the case of a Nigerian senator, who argued that a "clause in the constitution", pertaining to child marriage should not be removed because it contradicts his beliefs.
Why on earth will someone prefer to choose religion or belief over common sense? Even if your religion claims you can do something considered animalistic (which I seriously doubt), can't your common sense tell you that a girl child of 10 years( below the age of 18) is too young for marriage? But as barbaric as his claims and arguments were, some "Nigerians" supported him and he won! Before the age of 18 was approved by the UN convention as the average age for onset of complete physical, mental and social maturity, a lot of cultural, race, social, and scientific factors and facts were considered by the entire world. So why would we as a country allow some "retards" impose themselves on us.
This is to show that the minds of a large percentage of Nigerians, is not ripe enough or even fit to practice religion! Because common sense comes before belief. You cant do something animals do and say you are human and you worship a God. Even a goat has a little common sense and it knows when to cross the road.
These are just a few examples of the problems of religion in Nigeria. I hope you all read with an open mind. Common sense must prevail in this country, it works hand it hand with belief. The sad truth is that belief has displaced common sense in our society...
Someone reading this will say, "I think he's an Atheist". No I'm not an atheist, I believe in God and Jesus, and if I combine that will common sense, I can't be brainwashed by a fake cleric.
Why I'm arguing for more common sense in our society is because Nigeria is a country with many religions. Let me make this illustration. If you put 12 different Nigerians representing 12 different religions in a room, it will be difficult or even impossible for them to agree on a topic due to their different beliefs. But common sense is something that can unite all religions. And that's what a country like Nigeria needs.
Thanks for reading. Tune in again next week for another interesting topic . Your's truly. Bimbo
