From One Chick to Another..

Where under His Wings I find refuge.

Ahh the Sweet smell of Spring!

I have been battling the desire to stay in bed for the past few mornings.
Why? Because I really need to get some excercise and the best form is walking. However---the bugs are AWFUL...I don't think I can really accentuate how horrible they really are.
So... I thought..if I could get up at 6 a.m. I can get a 45 minute walk in before they get bad.
Mosquitoes & Blackflies. :irked: Evil little things.
Besides the fact...I am way too busy during the day to fit in that time for a walk.

This morning..I got up and out the door just before 6:30. Better late than never right!? :left:
I put my bug jacket on anyhow--just incase! I really didn't want to spray myself with bugspray.
So..I went! A lovely morning it was---the scent is sweet out there. There are trilliums blooming right now, in the woods...just gorgeous.

I heard rustling in the trees--I looked over and saw a deer running back into the woods.
Then just up the road... a fox ran out just a few feet in front of me. So cool! Things you don't see when you are snoring in bed. It's truly blissful. The sound is amazing as well. Many different birds singing their songs.
I only saw a couple of bugs...and that was nearing 7 a.m.
Hopefully tomorrow..I can manage to get up just a bit earlier..to go a bit further. :D

I have been very busily baking. I had 2 cake orders for Wed. And I have one for Friday- & A Wedding Cake for Saturday as well as another birthday cake order! :D
Things are great!
My hubby is thoroughly enjoying his new job. He is currently training right now...a lot of reading and saftey training.
There is a deeper peace in our home that has been missing for a long time.
I didn't realize the underlying stress that was in the air for so long.
At Canadian Tire...he was doing piece work. --- For Example..if someone came in for an oil change...and the oil change pays 1/2 hour. Let's say he runs into a problem and for some weird reason that oil change takes an hour. He only gets the 1/2 hour.
It wasn't a salary. Sometimes he would come home from work with just 4 hours pay for the day (despite the fact that he worked longer than 8 hour days).
And that happened often.---They needed customers in order to have work & get paid.

So..now it's salary. There is no question that he will get at least 8 hours a day! And there is many chances for overtime.
He is way more relaxed..and that just flows into our home.
I am truly thankful to GOD for this!

Have a great day everyone! I am off to bake!

Changes...

Good Monday morning!
Today is the beginning of change! --for us anyhow.
My husband started a new job today. A better job. Better salary, chances for promotion, and way better benefits.
He was with Canadian Tire Corp. for the last 9 years..so this is a big change for us.
Now he will be working for Waste Management. He will be working on the maintenance of trucks and heavy equipment.

This morning I have been enjoying the beautiful sound of 'Cockle-doodle-doing' in the yard.

We haven't had a rooster for about a year now..so it is a pleasant sound. We picked up 'Roo' on Saturday after spending an afternoon with my mom. (it was her birthday on Fri. and Mother's Day Sunday--so we spent Saturday with her.)

I found an ad on Equistation.com for some roosters looking for a home. He was living near my moms so we thought we would pick him up on the way home.

He sure is a handsome fellow. Still young- 6 months old...& hopefully he'll be a keeper. If he gives chase to one of the children..or myself..even 1 time! :chef:

Yesterday my children surprised me with my favorite perfume for Mother's Day.
I discovered this brand one day while I was browsing perfume's with my daughter this winter. I love to try new one's--& this one really stood out...I just love the fragrance!
My daughter remembered and they all pitched in to buy it for me for Mother's Day. Thoughtful, isn't it?

I just adore perfume. I love a good fragrance!

Also..I have a wedding cake to plan for for this week-end. Through word of mouth from a customer...this young woman called me up--sight unseen..never to try a cake from me...and ordered a wedding cake.
I am honored.
I also have 3 more, so far, to look forward to this season. It's amazing. I vowed never to delve into wedding cakes..& lookit me now!

I was on the phone trying to reach a customer this morning and noticed my horsies out in the yard!
Sheesh. My poor husband forgot--AGAIN--to close the gate!!! :eyes:
The other day I came home from town and all the goats & llama were in my yard eating the new buds on the apple tree. p:
I think maybe he is a little distracted with the new job! It's alright..I ran out...all covered in my bug jacket---blackflies are HORRIBLE!!!---and coaxed them back into the field with a nice bucket of oats. Dozer LOVES oats! He came running when he saw the bucket..too cute.

Anyhow..this is just the beginning of new things..good things! Have a great day!

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to all my lady friends!
Even to those who have never physically given birth---I believe all women have a Mother's heart.
I think of my step-mom when I say that...and my auntie.
Be Blessed today!

I'm on my way!

Ok...I'm gonna put it all--well most of it- out on the table. :left:
I lost 20 lbs!
It was EXACTLY 6 months ago today that I discovered that I was waaaaaay over the weight I should be at. Still not comfortable telling what that is yet.
I still would be happy to lose another 10 to 15 lbs. Though..I should really not focus on the #'s since my Muscle Mass went up...and my Body Mass went down by a significant amount.
I also lost 7 cm's (almost 3 inches) around the waistline.

I love my doctor. She was soooo pumped for me it was contagious!
I'll be honest and say I was less than thrilled to see that it wasn't more than 20 lbs that left. p:
So my dr's enthusiasm made up for that!
She confidently told me that she'll see me in 4 months to see the other 10 lbs off. :D

Anyhow..I am off for a walk now! :D

Oh Canada! :)

, ,

What first comes to mind when you spot one of these creatures?
Canada- EH! :D

Unfortunately he is on our pond...and if he sticks around.. (no pun intended! )..he'll have to be relocated. :frown:

My dog Rocky just keeping a close eye on the Beaver.

YOUNG GOATS 4 SALE!

Alas!

More than words can describe. I am happy! (there are cupboards & drawers all around! )

New Kitchen Island!

A friend of ours is a talented carpenter and builder..
He constructed an island for my kitchen to replace the very awkward one we have right now.
I barely have any counter space, and I really need the space as you well know. :chef:
Anyhow..the island is currently in pieces in my kitchen...and will be assembled tomorrow!!
I thought I would post the before pic...I took out the drawers and emptied the shelves on the current island. You can see how impractical it is for what I need.
Tomorrow I'll get some pics of the finished new counter! :D

I made lemon poppyseed cupcakes with lemon frosting...and decorated them with chubby daisy's. These are for my sister (her birthday today-but I'll see her tomorrow :hat: )..then I have 51 more to decorate for church on Sunday. :eyes:

Pakenham Thaw...

I brought my camera with me this morning and snapped some shots of the interesting water situation we have with all the snow melting.
I don't think we've seen the worst of it yet.

Overtaken by Blessings!

Where to begin?
Well...I had a FANTASTIC week-end away!!---I won't talk about that right now though.
Yesterday, my 10 year old daughter was a part of Canada's Spelling Bee...in her school. I enrolled her in that a couple of months ago..well---SHE won FIRST place in the Junior division!!! :hat:
She is off to Toronto next month for the finals! --and she won $200.00!!

Ok...then, we sold our first baby goat of the season, yesterday!
We sold Teddy--the 1/2 breed...the cutest male goat in the bunch.

This morning while I was in the kitchen...I spotted a different bird on the deck..it is a 'yellow bellied sapsucker'..

I have yet to spot one on my deck before so I snapped a shot and e-mailed the pics to my 'expert' friend---and here was his reply...
Hi Cheryl,
What wonderful pictures! I think I'll use one for my column in the Lanark Era next week. Of course, I'll give you credit for it.
The woodpecker is a yellow-bellied sapsucker, first one reported this year. It drills neat rows of holes in trees to get the sap running for its food. In about a week, the first (male) hummingbirds will be reported for they follow the sapsuckers northwards being guaranteed a supply of nectar.
Cliff

I am always fascinated by the different birds that come to my deck.

And today while I was in the barn taking pics for my 'goats for sale' advertisement---I discovered this......

Little Momma had her baby!! I knew she was due anytime...but it was so cool that she just gave birth moments prior to my coming to the barn. It was perfect timing! I don't normally go in the barn in the morning. This little girl was born at approximately 10:30 am. EST--she'll be ready to go to a new home in 3 months.

& The cake orders are pouring in! :D
