Snow...snow...snow!
Sunday, 9. March 2008, 16:45:22
My poor husband had to go to work yesterday...thankfully there was a lull in between the fronts coming through...and he managed to get home before the worst of it hit.
Our van couldn't make it up the driveway however, and had he taken the little Honda...he wouldn't have made it home at all.
The first pic is from the 30 cm's of snow we had on Wednesday...

not so bad....
This was taken this morning...

Outside our living room window this morning...

(our mudroom...notice the 'lack' of window!)

What greeted me when I opened the door....

Our poor little Honda...

(the van--stuck at the bottom of the driveway)

(the house & deck---view on the way to the barn)

(Poor boy---I was up in the wee hours this morning..praying that all the critters were safe & sound)

(my girl-Gypsy---she wasn't in there all night--she is covered in white crusty ice & snow!)

(where's my water dish?)
Today, the focus is going to be on clearing out a path to get out of the driveway eventually. I am praying for a nice person to show up with a tractor or snow plow.
Our eldest son will be shovelling off the roof...and my dear man will be trying to make the path to get out!
>>>>>>>>>>>>>More pics can be seen HERE!!<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Have a great day!
ps...oh yes..this was a system that came in from Texas! Crazy!

The first two pictures are very interesting, showing the accumulation from one to the other. And your living room window - well I guess the bright side is that you won't have to clean the outside of your windows for awhile.
You certainl have a beautiful home!
I hope all the critters can stay warm.
Well, you certainly have some beautiful pictures. You can look them over this spring when it's all gone. We're well into March, it can't possibly last much longer - can it?

And one of our friends--he has a tractor with a snowblowing attachment..he came down and cleared our driveway!
Thanks for the compliment on our home. We consider ourselves blessed.
Yup Sandy..it's Sarah's fault!
And Marie...Thanks for the encouragement..I am taking heart...really, I can't imagine it getting any worse! ---once all the snow was cleared it looks very pretty.
Check out the extra pics on the link at the bottom of this post.

They said on the news last night that it would probably take about a week to get it mostly cleaned up.
At least where I live there are wide open spaces...I can't imagine what they do in the city limits.. There is a lack of space for snow dumping.
The snow banks are high everywhere.
Today I am going outside to dig more of a pathway to the barn.
The snow was way past my knees when I went out yesterday morning.
Marie...I think we broke some sort of record..but we still didn't break the one record set in 70-71 for the most snow in the season...
we are still 34 cm's short! (440 some odd cm's) Well..I don't want to break that one!!

Here in Austria we had two mild winters, but the one before was hard and brought lots of snow. People here did not clear their roofs because they are all built very well, but in that winter it often rained onto the snow and froze again, and the snow masses got heavier and heavier, and finally some houses broke! Then everyone cleared their roof...
So it's nothing to play with.
I think though that the horses don't care about the snow loads as long as there is a dry resting place.

Houses aren't made to handle the amount of weight that snow & ice bring... I forgot the estimated amount of weight they announced on the news...but it was amazing how heavy...tons!
You are right..the horse's only care about a full tummy and shelter from the wind.

It's supposed to snow a few more times this week.
Also..I have heard that the total accumulation for that storm was 56 cm's here in the Ottawa area.
Amazing!

How is the weather now?
By angel292005, # 13. March 2008, 22:31:54
Yes...it seems we are sharing the wealth...
(it came from Texas!)
It's snowing again right now!
Though..tomorrow a lot of it should melt since it is going to get mild.

electricity problems with this one yet. That worries me.
Yes...it was the Texas part, lol.
Keep warm..I bet you are making cold weather food like
soups and stews...Spring has really sprung here..so I hope
that the little bit of snow last week was it for us.
Keep warm,

The issue for a lot of Ontarians is 'flooding'!
They are calling for rain--tonight or tomorrow?
Thanks Sarah...
