Incubator, weather, Power Outage
I had a small cake order for today..to bake & decorate yesterday.
I noticed the lights flickering..on & off..and I thought, I better get it done!
Good thing too, because at 1:30 p.m. the power went out!
Normally...not such a biggie. Yet, I have an incubator with 9 bantam eggs inside..all viable...at about 1 & 1/2 weeks..almost 1/2 way done!
What did I do?
I lit a fire in the woodstove!
I actually managed to get the internal temperature in the incubator up to 101 degrees! (Farenheit)..so you can well imagine what the living room felt like! It was HOT!!!
Anyhow...at 6 p.m., minutes before Peter & my eldest daughter got home, the power came back on!
There is nothing more exciting...when you rely on power for water usage. We need the pump to pump water to the house. So, no toilet flushing. Though I was smart-Before the outage..I left the bathtub full after my bath, just INCASE we would need to flush the toilets manually!
We are so ready for sunshine and warm air folks. It is really bad in our barnyard...like muddy/poopy swamp land behind the barn. Peter managed to dig out a trench to drain off some of the water...but it really needs to stop raining & snowing...and the ground needs to thaw some more for the water to drain off.
I had a friend e-mail me yesterday..with beautiful Boer goats (we bought our female goats from her)...She lost 5 kids because of the horrible wet weather. One momma goat had quadruplets! All perished.
And one single birth...dead. This is what we are dealing with.
So...send warm thoughts our way!

WoodPecker, Wood, weather, birds
When I got a close look at this pic I snapped yesterday...I
.
Yes, Mr. WoodPecker is licking his beak!
I have never caught a shot like this before.

I am still coming down off of a sugar high from Valentines Day...
My eldest daughter even bought me a lovely heart filled with chocolates. One from Hubby & one from DD.
Good news on the weather front for today...
The weather is supposed to warm up a lot. It just hasn't stopped being so brutally cold. (-20's to -30's Celcius) It is to the point where a person, namely me, could just cry at the thought of smashing another frozen water bucket for the gazillionth time!
The animals will be happier too. We locked them into the barn for a few days at a time. They were a little stir crazy!
Yesterday, after working at the church...I came home, went into the barn to make sure everyone had water...and the silly goats knocked over a wheelbarrow FULL, I mean FULL of manure and bedding. It was so full that I couldn't get it all back in again. I may have chosen a word or two that would not be worth repeating right now.
Also, I am praying for a miracle on the woodpile...we still have a couple of cold months left.
Anyhow...I hope you all have a wonderful Friday! Blessings!

Cookies, Baking, weather
Last night, we went into the Prior (town of Arnprior) to drop off Josh @ his cadets program...and then to pick up some ingredients for baking. Christmas baking & my cakes. I bought 10 lbs of butter yesterday!!!
Then, today, again in the Prior...on the way out of the bank then to the new Shoppers Drug Mart store's grand opening....I ran into a friend.. (hi Liz!
)..and she told me they had butter on sale for $2.77/lb! Almost a $1 cheaper per pound than I paid the day before.
Sooooooooo....I bought 4 more lbs. (that was the limit
)
lol..then I asked Peter if he wouldn't mind picking up 4 more after work. So he is.
I need the butter for my icing...and for my shortbread cookies. I need to get a crack on my Christmas baking. Gingerbread men, Sugar cookies...and Whipped Shortbread...my usual cookie menu for Christmas.
Anyhow...before I overstimulate you all with my thrilling life stories...I better go, and get some stuff done around here.
I really wish it would stop raining. It is about 14 degrees celcius today...and raining. Then later it is supposed to plummet down to freezing temps. I just hope it stops raining when it does that...or else it'll be messy.
Not to mention, very dangerous & treacherous for driving conditions. Take care everyone!
