New Pics of my life...or at least of the animals...

My hard-working man has been busily preparing the upper field for the animals..mainly the horse & pony.
Last year at this time, you would be up to your stomach in grass if you walked out to the back of the barnyard. This year..this is what you see.
In this case, the grass is indeed greener on the other side!
So a dear friend of ours came over and helped Peter build this really nice horse shelter.
We used old barn boards from a portion of the barn we tore down last year. I think it looks great!
Then my eldest son & my dh put the roof on this past week-end, to finish it off.
(behind the building is the field where the animals are currently grazing)
Hopefully as soon as the electric fence is up & running we will be moving them to that field. Slowly at first as too much grass is bad for the horses.
On top of it all...we are beginning to think at least one of our goats is pregnant.
She is looking bigger than the rest...and there are other tell-tale signs. (I'll spare you all the graphic details!
Anyhow..that is all that is new on the animal front..oh yes, remember all the chicks I hatched? Well...they'll soon have siblings as the momma hen has decided to sit on one of the nests of many eggs that they have been laying.

the horses can be happy, also the goats and chicken.
Spring really is a wonderful time!

is it really dry in Canada, that the grass isn't high????

Elke, yes I agree..spring is a wonderful time.
Issy, no..it isn't that dry...I just think the horses and goats are faster at eating than the grass is at growing...and also it seems that other farmers are experiencing the same thing.
Thanks Marcus.

Aah, it brings back memories of failed attempts at being a farm hand in my early 20's. But every year I love the look of a freshly plowed field and the smell of freshly turned earth - sigh . One thing I can do without: liquid pig manure! Double yuck!!

I can only imagine the lovely odour...Liquid cow manure reeks to high heaven.
I also love the smell of freshly turned earth. And right now on our property the lilacs are blooming, and there are some apple blossoms left...a beautiful scent all around.

But I think the field they are in doesn't have enough time to sprout with them trampling & eating it. It's ok..Peter finished the other field and they were in there last night. Again tonight, until they are used to the lush grass.
