But I read today that the Arctic ice is melting even more dramatically than it was thought

Well I think there is a lot of discussion and uncertainty on that subject. what I can tell though is that the glaciers around the inland ice seems to be moving retreat or grow in a circular pattern. But yeah the sea ice around the poles seems to be melting rather fast these days.
Which makes the fact that the last two winters in Greenland has been relatively strong and cold a little hard to understand.
