APN is running out and a splendid weekend.

Hi All,
This weekend has been a lot of walking... a way of cleansing the soul and recharge the totally flat batteries I suffered from...
It has indeed ben a splendid weekend, lots of time with Miss Duplo, she even joined me on my walk today.
Batteries are well charged now and they need to be, got some VERY rough weeks coming up (like 3 or 4 of them).
Including my around the atlantic trip which is quite a programme, but it will go as follows:
NOV2-3: Arlington, US
NOV3-5: New York City, US
NOV6-9: London, UK
NOV9-10: Cologne, DE
NOV10-14: COpenhagen and Judland, DK
Again it will be quite a challenge and I am certain that I will be pretty bashed:ko: when coming back from that trip...
Well I promised you yesterday to upload the backlog of Nuuk Autumn Pictures, well here are 3 examples, 5 more in the album:

Just could not resist showing of Miss Duplo:love: again:D
As you can see from the pictures, autumn is running out and fast. Snow is coming, though disappearing partly during the day, but it will not be loong. I think I will follow the example of Louis and set October 31st as the last day of my APN postings, but do not worry I will start up WPN or NWP (Nuuk Winter Pictures) in my own terms on November 1st. Well make that November 15th, as I will be travelling between the 2nd and 14th...
I have also shot a few more pictures for the Nuuk from a foreigner's point of view album:

(As usual all pictures in this post are clickable for a larger view)
The first one might seem brutal, but it is a sight that one gets used to up here, this is a society of hunters and fishermen, surviving in a rather extreme environment. Those still living like that has a, to me at least, rather brutal approach to life.
It is not uncommon to see either a seal, a rein deer, snow hare (I am not sure of the english name) or something ismilar hanging out to dry from a balcony, a made for the purpose wooden structure or even the roof as here..
Anyway I will head to bed... take good care you all.
Thomas

it's very nice when we have an enjoyable weekend, specially with the person we love!
In the place you live it is not hard to take a walk and relax!
I think so sweetie when you talk about your fiancé, the way you talk show us your real feelings about her!
That pic about the rabbit is brutal indeed! It reminds me when I was a child and my daddy used to have rabbits at the yard... every month he killed one of them and prepared to eat...
Maybe if I have different culture!
nice pics again!
hugs to you

This time I particularly like the rabbit hanging under the roof - something you´ll never see in Aarhus for sure.
Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo # Monday, October 23, 2006 1:37:26 PM
Thank you.
Well I guess you are right I am in love with her and very much indeed. She isthe single most important part of my solid homebase. To be honest I am not sure what I would do without her:)
Well, the part of the culture represented by the rabbit seems brutal to me too, but I am on the other hand only a city boy and thus very foreign to the culture up here.
Take care Bea:)

Neither will I grow tired telling you, that I take that as a compliment and a valued one:)
I guess doing like this in Aarhus (or any other city in Denmark for that matter) would lead to outrage and public stoning;)
Thanks again...
by the way, snow has been falling tonight:)

another series of very nice photos. It's interesting to see, how fast the winter is coming in Nuuk. Thank you for your great reports.
And greetings to Mrs. Duplo; she looks like an angel in your photo.

Thanks for the compliments, I will pass on the last one to miss Duplo.
Thanks for commenting and stopping by:)

On a totally different note, winter is not bad when having a smile like that

Well I guess I do have to cross a few...from -3 to -5 to 0 to +1 to -3 in less than two weeks..... I think I will try asking about for that, might be useful at some point.
I know:D I will be sure to pass on that compliment as well:D

The shot with the rabbit has a strangely compelling look to it.
Flying from new york to london, be sure to give a wave at us here in galway as you go over

She is well and happy, or at least were when I left home this morning:)
But then again she were asleep, kind of hard to tell then:D:D
I am fairly dragged by that shot also, one of those shots that I myself, keep turning back to...
I am really unable to tell why...
I will wave at you as I pass by:)

I noticed that your rabbit photo is causing a lot of debate so I thought I'd add my two cents. Most folks seem to focus on the "brutality" of the photo and how strange a sight it is. As you say, it is a cultural thing. But it's part of my culture so I'm not really that bothered by it.
I grew up in rural Saskatchewan, in a farming community. So it was natural to see animals in all stages of food production. Birth, life, death, and finally butchering. Hunting was also a big part of life, and fall was particularly busy. I guess what I'm trying to say is that "city boys" can easily forget that steak is cow, pork is pig, chicken is - well chicken. It may not be pretty, but it's necessary.

Those photos are beautiful and that include the nice smile of Miss Duplo.
You have an impressive schedule coming up,
Good luck and take a lot of pictures
Like our Irreverend, I'm not particularly shocked by the rabbit photo. Strangely, I began to write a post about hunting. You might see it tonight on my Blog if I have the time to complete it.(After my laundry, dishes, ect.)
Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo # Tuesday, October 24, 2006 11:26:59 PM
Nice to have you back.
I am a city boy, however do have vague memories from my early childhood about my father cutting up a rein deer.
It is indeed a kind of a cultural thing. I were in a lot of doubt before posting it, but decided to do it.
Mostly becasue it is a significant part of the current greenlandic culture and this picture barely scratches the surface of that part of their culture.
Just hope people do not think I am some sort of a barbarian:confused:
Thank you for your kind words, they were good to read. as I have been a bit concerned about the reactions to the picture. Just glad it were only a rabbit and not a seal that hung from the roof.
But I think I will be a bit more careful about how I expose pictures from this part of the greenlandic culture in the future.
Thanks again for commenting.

Thanks for the very nice compliment.
As you can see I have been a bit concerned about the reactions... I still am in fact.
I were composing a story about the local food market and has been going htrough my original pictures from there to find out how and what I am missing for a photoessay on the market, but the reaction to the rabit has made me aware that I have to think carefully about how I expose you all to what it really looks like. Because this market is where the hunters cut up their preys from the latest hunts.
I have a shootout scheduled for the weekend downthere.
I am looking forward to read that hunting story of yours...
Thanks for your kind comments:)

Hunting is a way of life for some people. And even in South Africa there are a lot of people who engage in hunting for sport - and it's not something I approve of or something that I would do. But to each his own!
Of course, you are a photographer and you take photos of what you see. That is a simple truth. Your photos are amazing and capture the essence of what makes your life a reality - don't tailor-make it to fit other people's lives and expectations.

And firstly welcome to my humble home here in OC.
I agree with you on the hunting part as stated in a comment to a post on hunting, written by Louis If I were to go hunting then it would be armed with a camera and a good 500 mm prime (Yep I am dreaming now, the "bigma" would do as well:D)
Being called a photographer is perhaps the biggest compliment I have heard yet:)
You are too kind, I am merely a happy amateur playing around.
Having said that then this comment
Is a compliment and a recommendation I will not forget anytime soon.
Thank you:)
