Duplo's blog

- Just another blog on the internet -

Winter has arrived, new "toys" and NWP.

, , ,

Hi All,

These Duploworld updates are frequent at the moment, but I have the inspiration at the moment and why not take advantage of it.

The new "toys":

<--- Wow a big box all for me:)

It says UPS, could it be.... --->

<--- huh:eyes: nothing but air down there??

Wow, it is my new "toy"--->

<--- Uhh:) this one looks big:)

The lenses side by side --->

<--- wow... looks kind of pro does it not:D

On a more serious note, I have received my new lenses and my tripod as well... they are gorgeous thingys...

A Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4.5 DC Macro (the little one), a Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 EX APO DG (the big one) and an ultra compact tripod from Manfrotto, amazing lenses really... I had like something short of an hour of almost daylight to play with them... even though the zoom is a rather "fast" one I did not have time to test it properly... only this Candid shot of miss Duplo were taken. I will take it for a walk tomorrow to see what it can do, but at something like 1250 grams it is not a lightweight lens at all.
The smaller one was used for the remaining pictures in this post.

Winter:
We have had snow all day, not typical winter snow, but slowly and continiously falling big white snowflakes, were beautiful and as temperatures are steady below 0 degrees it should stick around.
It does unfortunately mean that theNuuk Autumn Pictures will retire until next year, why yesterdays picture were the last autumn picture from me. I will continue to follow the APN, so many lovely pictures to see.
An upside is that it marks the beginning of the Nuuk Winter Pictures album (NWP). Perhaps this will be the first album in a Winter Pictures Network?
So without further ado, here are the first Nuuk winter Pictures:

So far the carpet is thin, but we now do have snow enough to justify calling it a winter landscape:D we are still a few meters short of real winter up here, but this album will continue throughout our winter (usually ends around may, but then again this year we had a snowstorm in June as well:D

That is all and quite a lengthy update I guess...

Take care You all:)

Thomas

Well we should honour people for their original Ideas, the essay is inspired very much by a guy call Pattang from the Pentax SLR forum at DPreview I tried to find his original post but were unsuccessful. Thanks Pattang for the inspiration.

Weekend, Snow and what might be a wonderful surpriseMore winter and my APN favourites.

Yep, you spent some serious cash!
But, ahhh, nice toys to play with.
That package made me laugh. Looks like it went through a war zone before it got to you. lol Good that it was cushioned well or you might have had broken glass yikes

Good luck on that equipment.

Damit that looks cool up
Hope you have many years of fun using your new equipment.

must get an SLR myself one of these years

Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo Sunday, October 29, 2006 3:20:32 AM

HI Andy,

lol It most likly has:D Luckily everything were fine:)

Well they did not come for free, but yep nice toys I needed the range in both ends. previously I only had like 28-105mm and a prime, now I am covered from 17-200mm (26-300mm equiv) That biggie feels like a tank:)

New toys is good, anyone said anything about aspiring LBA?

Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo Sunday, October 29, 2006 3:24:47 AM

Hi Richard,

I think so:) At that price they better last more than a few month that is for sure:)

It is a whole different world than Ultrazoom, versatility for one... but then again also a whole lot more pricey:(
And those ultra zooms are not something to laugh at, I still have my FZ7 as back up.

Take care:)

HI Koma,

Thank you..

A question:
What do you mean by unaffected?

thanks again and take care:)

Louisvolkuro Sunday, October 29, 2006 4:25:08 AM

WOW! Impressive equipment. up

That lens is so big, be careful not to accidentally harm any animal with it! wink

Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo Sunday, October 29, 2006 4:40:40 AM

hi Louis,

well not much chance of that up here:lol: requires som animals to be around:D

It is some nice equipment for sure...
But truth is that it is the eye hand and mind (and sometimes tripod) is the single most important factor to capture that stunning picture...
APN has prooved that:)

Allanricewood Sunday, October 29, 2006 8:10:17 AM

Congrats with your new gadgets, Thomas.

Look sturdy, efficient, yet heavy to carry around.

I particularly like the snowy field photograph.

beavidal Sunday, October 29, 2006 12:23:01 PM

lol a child and its toys!!!

very cool toy uh?? smile

I'm sure you'll make a incredible use of it Thomas!

hey, the last right pic is really amazing. That small light of sun in there gave an special natural effect... cool! up

hugs

Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo Sunday, October 29, 2006 2:16:54 PM

Hi Allan,

It is sturdy, efficeint I hope ad well heavy yes, but it actually does not feel that way... On my cam it actually balances next to perfection
Take the portrait above... shot at 1/15, at 70mm - handheld....
OK In body SR holds a lot of honour for that particular one, but the god balance has a lot of honour too...

My own favourite too:)

Well I am off... wanna go play with my new toy:)

Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo Sunday, October 29, 2006 2:19:20 PM

HI Bea,

Thank you:)

Yeah:D toys are good:D

I will do my best, that is for sure.... gotta learn to know them first:)

Take care

Hugs from me:)

Hey Duplo,

Nice new toys!

There's really not much transition time where you are from autumn to winter. It could be another four weeks where I live before there's really a significant snowfall. We usually get "snow to cover the ground" around the last week of November.

Good luck travelling! May all your connections work out, and the customs/passport people you deal with all be having good days!

Hi Yooper,

Thank you... way fun new toy, a real pleasure to handle:)

Well I would call it a long transition and well by Greenlandic standard we have not had snow at all yet, but from my Danish point of view it is snow:D

Thanks for the well wishes... it is going to be busy, most likely frustrating, but also a great deal of fun:D

Take care:)

Thank you Elke:)

hungryghost Tuesday, October 31, 2006 4:19:55 AM

WOW!

I'm jealous of all the equipment...but still strugge over whether to get a point and shoot or an SLR. Ah well, konwing me, I'll just continue with my old camera until it dies before making a decision!

take care

bigsmile

Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo Tuesday, October 31, 2006 12:38:07 PM

Hi Hungry,

I love the new Equipment, pleaseure to use.
That decision is perhaps the hardest (yet easiest) I have ever made and one of the more expensive too...
You old one does take very nice pictures too and is a solid proof of the fact that it is the eye, hand and mind behind the camera that really matters, not the equipment:)

you take care as well:)
