Duplo's blog

- Just another blog on the internet -

Prague, a more thorough update.

,

Hi All,

Well Duploworld has been back to normal for less than 24 hrs the good news is that the Prague album has been updated and now contains 19 pictures of a mixed standard, there are a few that I really like, but this is mainly a turisty snapshoty album. so do not expect too much from it. Prague is in many ways an amazing town. Small enough to be strolled by foot, and with an amazing amount of old architechture to look at.

A few things clouded the picture though. Prague are having a huge amount of turists for its size, they were a real bugger at times. We were approached by people trying to sell us drugs or female company way too often to my taste. This kind of surprised me as we were walking on the main shopping streets:confused:

Set the above aside and Pague is amazing and beautiful, Ohh and did I mention that they do serve a lot of really excellent Czech beer:cheers:drunkpartybigsmile

As we were in conference all day there are quite a few lowlight shots, but they turned out OK. only Sunday we had a few hours of walkabout in Daylight.

and during nighttime One will notise another amazing thing about Prague, they have made an artform of floodlighting the historical buildings... the teaser photo below is a prime example of that.

Personally I will stay in Nuuk until December 21st. By then it is time to go home to Copenhagen and my family to celebrate Christmas. Then back to Greenland for a short while and off to Salt Lake City by January 6th.

For those too busy to check out the Prague album I have left a few direct links to the left of this post.

Take good care all of you:)
Thomas

I have seen a lot of photos from various cities around the world - including Prague - and yours strike as much better than average. You tend to photograph the stuff I like to glance at when I´m in a foreign city.

Nice album up

About 10 years ago I picked up a folder full of sepia toned photos of prague, it was from a library in an old convent, I have no idea how old the pictures were but they were stunning. I have had a longing to vist there ever since.
Thank you for sharing your photos with us, it probably as close as I will get to there for a long time.

"Pivo" is the only Czech word I can remember!

Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo Wednesday, December 6, 2006 1:28:23 AM

Hi Allan,

First of all thank you for your kind compliment
Well the truth is that I photograph the stuff I glance at when I am in a foreign city...

I have earlier claimed that landscapes are my favourite thing, but during my travels I have come to like cityscapes and street photography as well:)

Thanks again.

Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo Wednesday, December 6, 2006 1:30:52 AM

Very nice album Thomas!

I especially like the horse close-up and the yellow pub one. Good thing for us that you travel this much! bigsmile

Happy shoveling now!

Sansanshan Wednesday, December 6, 2006 3:39:56 AM

Lovely pictures. I really want to go to Prague some day, my grandpa was from that part of the world.

Andy WilsonDudley Wednesday, December 6, 2006 4:12:51 AM

Great set of photos.

Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo Wednesday, December 6, 2006 11:32:38 AM

HI Sandy,

Thank you, I am glad you like them:) Well I am sure you will go there some day, interesting to hear that you actually are related to the area.
Is you grandpa really from the Czech Republic?

Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo Wednesday, December 6, 2006 11:55:50 AM

Hi Louis,

Thank you:)

Well for now i have walked a path to the door, shovelling will have to wait for the weekend:)

I am nok complaining either, but it can actually become too much travelling as well and we are a bit on the high side lately.
I mean I love to travel, but it does have consequences on both body, mind and family too..
Would like to have just a little time with Miss Duplo every now and then;D

Take care:)

Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo Wednesday, December 6, 2006 12:01:58 PM

Hi GoodNature,

Glad to be back posting again:)

well you describe Prague very well, I like how you make it sound.
While I have no memory from the post war Berlin, then I have been to the Baltics and other Eastern European Countries and the all have that feel to it... Tallinn is very similar to prague, just without the people stopping you in the streets.

I am not saying that i dislike Prague, I adore the city, but there are aspects that are not to my liking.

Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo Wednesday, December 6, 2006 12:03:17 PM

Hi Andy,

Thank you, I had loads of fun taking them:)

Take care:)

Asgeirmisund007 Wednesday, December 6, 2006 3:05:21 PM

Great photos! I have thought about Prague as a holiday destination before, looking through your photos makes want to go even more yes

Dulezen4life Thursday, December 7, 2006 5:21:44 AM

i was in prague last month, and i'll have to agree with you, it's really like in fairytale... though, you should see it without x-mass decoration, it's much nicer than.

and your right again, their beer is the best in the world, especially "kruševice" bigsmile

another thing i liked was that i could understand (written) czech, i never thought it's that transparent to serbian.

ALLY G.ALLY_G Thursday, December 7, 2006 5:11:30 PM

Hi Thomas,

Hi There Asgeir,

I think ou should go then... I would love to spend a few days there during spring or summer:) but i would choose a few days during the week I think... To avoid the weekend crowds:D

Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo Friday, December 8, 2006 1:47:37 AM

Hi Zen4life,

Firstly welcome to my humble blog:)

I kind of like all the Christmas lights, though the blue Christmas trees might were a little over the top:)

You were actually able to understand written Czech:eyes: seemed almost as bad as russian or Greenlandic to me:D

Well the Budweiser is my favourite (the Czech one, not the American:D)

How Is Serbia? I tried to leave a comment on your blog, but it told me I were on your ignorelist:confused:

Take care:)

Louisvolkuro Friday, December 8, 2006 2:18:49 AM

Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo Sunday, December 10, 2006 5:52:36 AM

Hi Hungry,

Thank you for the welcomes and the compliments:)

Well the key is planning... careful planning:D No actually it is thanks to the vendors and organisations I am interacting with.
Well Seattle I am not too sure about, but both LA and Frisco are nice cities as I recall them:D

Other than that everything is well and i am just trying not to work this weekend, not entirely successful though...

How are things in Vancouver?

Take care:)

hungryghost Sunday, December 10, 2006 4:44:38 PM

Dulezen4life Sunday, December 10, 2006 7:07:13 PM

sorry, there's some bug, so every time i put someone's blog on my watch list, opera community adds that user to my ignore list sad i hope they'll fix it soon

speaking of serbia, it's pretty much under rapid reconstruction. counstruction yards & cranes are predominant sights at the moment

Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo Sunday, December 10, 2006 11:36:08 PM

No needs to apologize Zen, it is that darn server:monkey:

I am glad to hear that Serbia is comming back together again:) It should be such a beautiful Country and I have added it to my "places to go" list again about two years ago... still has to find time to go there though...

I will be checking back every now and then to find out if it works:)

Dulezen4life Tuesday, December 12, 2006 4:27:28 AM

Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo Tuesday, December 12, 2006 11:43:55 AM

Hey ! I like your style and I also like Prague city as well. It is just a a great city. I was happy to find a wide variety of museums in Prague covering almost anything you can think of: national history, communism, historical Czech art, music, literature. To see all of Prague museums would take several days of staying in hotels in Prague for vacation. If you are interested in some specific area, you will easily find museum in Prague for your interests.
