Greenlandic Spring Pictures

, , , ,

Hi All,

A new Duploworld update... It is time, it has happened. I have uploaded the first round of pictures for the "Greenlandic Spring Pictures" Album...

But erhm... well.... do not get too excited, there is no spring at all in them, rather mroe snow than ever... we have had 4 days of heavy snow and it makes for a lot of snow.

To get some of the pictures I had to cross a few places where I was in snow up to my chest.

Anyway, Miss Duplo and I have had a lot of fun in it, I mean just look at these two fine series of her (click and click again to see the full size)... kind of smells like spring right?

Anyway there is more to it, because today we have had the most beautiful clear blue sky... and blue skies are spring like:) But I will still be snowboarding all Easter:D

Anyway a round of examples.... the rest are in the album:)

Not much else to say... I hope to get some pictures that actually looks more like spring sometime during spring... but now you know, spring up here looks an awful lot like winter and feels like it too... -10C today... brrr...

Take care you all:)

Thomas

Copenhagen an update and an apology.Easter update...

But the light, Thomas, is the light of springtime!

I just adore that beat up old boat in the virgin white snow. Do you have more photos from that spot? I would have liked to lay myself flat down and photograph the thing from a frog´s perspective using an as wide angle lens as possible.

White spring. Are you in Iceland? I thought.... No green at all.

yooperprof Wednesday, April 4, 2007 10:12:12 AM

At least the days are longer and the sun is higher in the sky! bigsmile

Hi Allan,

Thank you:) and yes it is indeed the light of springtime and we do have long days already.. the sun set around 2100 hrs up here and pretty soon we will have sun almost 24 hrs a day.

Well I got as low as I could, the snow where I am standing is around 1m deep and very powderish, i would not want to try go belly first in that situation:D
HERE is another one, different ship but more froggy in perspective (snow was not as deep here:)).
Did not bring my 14mm on that day, I will be going back to that spot around sunset to see what i can get though and bring the 14mm too:)

Thanks again and do take care:)

HI aaroncn,

firstly a big welcome to my blog, as I believe it is your first comment here.
Nope i am in greenland, a bit further to the North...
Nope no green at all, we are a little to far north for green this early:)

Take care:)

Hi Thomas!

wow! seems that the spring is affected by the world madness on treating nature!

it's bad. all the world is suffering the consequences.

but it's nice to see that, even with much snow, miss duplo and you enjoyed a lot (I'd love to do what she did!) smile

btw, the pic about the boat is amazing! I loved it! it's one of the most cool pics I've seen from you! congrats!

smile

see you! hugs

Duplo dont forget one of the points to the photo networks is to see the seasons from all over the world, if you have snow for spring well we want to see your snow. particularly when the photos are of such good quality.
I think the one of the snow bound boat is my favorite....or is it the one of the road through the snow...or...or...bang!!

Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo Friday, April 6, 2007 6:19:12 PM

Hi Bea,

I am not sure that what you see is a product of some environmental change due t how we treat nature, this amoutn of snow in apil is quite common and it usually last until sometime in may... so this is a quite ordinary Greenlandic spring:)

Thank you for the fine compliment, I really like that pcture a lot too.

Miss Duplo and I really did enjoy ourselves.... almost like being kids again:D

Hugs to you too:)

Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo Friday, April 6, 2007 6:22:01 PM

Hi Richard,

Thank you for reminding me and complimenting the the quality of my pictures.

But you are naturally right, the point of the network is to see the nature of spring all over the world. I appreciate that a lot:)

Great photos again!

But when I look at the one with the road, a question comes to my mind:

Why the snow is removed by single shots perpendicularly to road? The snow removal trucks don't have any scraper blades or side wings?

Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo Monday, April 9, 2007 2:40:57 AM

Hi Louis,

Thank you first of all.

Well there is a reason for it... the amount of snow... the snow removal trucks up here is basically a numer of those really large construction trucks (wheels taller than me)... the have a regular showel mounted, a scraper would make no sense with this much snow.

Louisvolkuro Monday, April 9, 2007 11:07:13 AM

thanks, now I understand. bigsmile

Today i had the strangest dream. It was very crisp in details. I remember going to Greenland and visiting a highschool there. Land was covered with snow and sea was frozen. We were sliding downhill on our knees much like Miss Duplo on this photos bigsmile There were also boats there. It looked a lot like the landscape on first two pictures here (exept for the frozen sea).

I think the idea of Greenland comes from your blog bigsmile

Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo Monday, April 9, 2007 9:34:05 PM

Sounds good Louis:D

Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo Monday, April 9, 2007 9:34:37 PM

Nikio,

Being an inspiration to your dreams, I am honoured:)

Sounds like a wonderful dream and fun too:D
