EDIT:
The majority of this post has been removed by me.
A decent solution to all parties is underway, no sense in keeping a reference to what was a sad misunderstanding online.
Noone will benefit from that.
However I will leave the photo just for you to view.
(not up to the standards of previously posted photos of this phenomena, but still a decent shot i think)
Thank you all for your kind comments and support.
Thomas

Its appalling behavior from anyone let alone an official tourism site.
The Who-is info for greenland.com if you wanted to contact them offline.
http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/results.jsp?domain=greenland.com
seems their site administrator is in your own town.

Awesome pictures as usual!

Whoever did the bad deed of mis-appropriating your photography may very well have some bad karma coming their way!
(Not to mention that in small societies and small towns, everyone knows everyone else's business!)

I'm sure many people go without knowing that their work is plagiarised in the same way.
Hope you succeed in getting some justice.
Take care
P.S. Nice work above as always.

I don't know how copyright laws work in Greenland, but maybe there is something you can do. At the very least, they can giv eyou credit for the photo!
Or, since they liked your photo so well, perhaps you can arrange to be one of their official photographers!
I love the aurora phots. I have never seen this in real life. One day, perhaps.

Do get in contact with them - I hope and believe that this is the act of an individual. Surely it can´t be the official policy of the company.

People have taken photos from my blog, too! The whole thing, erased right off my blog, where the photo was, nothing is there! Be glad that didn't happen to you. This happened right here on Opera. One person took my photo and said he was going to fix it up and by his fixing it up, then it was going to go towards his photo credit! Then he erased my whole photo!!!!!
Here in the states, unless you pay the copyright fee and have your photo in the governments' copyright's offices, even if you do say your work is copyrighted, and indeed, you do have that opportunity by mailing the photos and negatives (if you have negs) to yourself and never opening up the envelope until you are in court, which is called the "Poor-man's copyright", if you intend to sue...
Bottom line, the internet is free and used by all, people should be complemented that their work is even noticed in such a very large world and suing people who might use your work without mentioning you or asking you would turn into a very large expense for you which you may not at all be compensated for.
Turn this into an opportunity, Duplo, not a negativity.
Yes, YES, I believe people should state where photos come from and who took them!!!!!!!!
People have stolen my work, too, and I have seen it on calendars and they never gave me any mention at all. I have seen my photos in newspapers under anonymous, where I donated photos to a group(s) for them to use in their paper. It is aggravating.

But, no reason for being angry. This means only one thing - that your photos are good
Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo # Monday, October 8, 2007 2:33:37 AM
Yep it is a most unexpected behaviour from them.
Thanks for the info too... better call them in the morning.

I just think they should do it right.
Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo # Monday, October 8, 2007 2:38:02 AM
Well it has happen before and probably more than I know of too.
But this time I am able to do something about it and I will.
I do not get why people act like that, let alone large companies or turism boards.
Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo # Monday, October 8, 2007 2:39:50 AM
There is a copyright law in Greenland (same as in DK) and it is actually broken in this instance.
Which again means that I can do something about it, but they should have a fair hance to make it right first.
Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo # Monday, October 8, 2007 2:41:41 AM
I am torn on this, because the last thing I want to see is them taking another hit.
Yes it hopefully is the act of an individual.
Good to see that you are still sneaking around:)
Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo # Monday, October 8, 2007 2:47:01 AM
and the filename reads "Directions_by_Thomas_Bojer_Eltorp.jpg" which kind of tells me that it is my photo:)
What I hear from friends in the US (working pro photographers) then I think you are wrong in your interpretations of the law.
The copyright law in Greenland and Denmark at least is very different from what you describe.
Yes internet appears free, but is IMO very commercial.
I am proud that they have notised, but not that they have broken the law.
And copy right laws applies to the internet as well as printed world, at least where I live.
Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo # Monday, October 8, 2007 2:47:53 AM
I am angry with the way that they have approached this, but I am also very happy about them liking my photos.

Yes, I am not a lawyer.

As per my edited post above, an acceptable solution has been found why the main part of the post has been removed.
hungryghost # Tuesday, October 9, 2007 5:08:11 PM
But am glad that you've found a solution to it. Beautiful photograph as usual Mr. Duplo - what's with all the talk about not quite being up to standard?
Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo # Wednesday, October 10, 2007 12:14:42 AM
Yep you missed out on quite a bit of it, but lets just say that someone forgot to ask about something and that things has worked them selves out OK...
Thank you for liking it Mr. Hungry:happy:
It is not exactly bad, but then again I have the full resolution files optimized for print and that is where the difference between OK and good is really showing it self:)

Well not retire this early... I am not sure my employers would allow me to:D
