Duplo's blog

- Just another blog on the internet -

Grand Central Terminal and more....

, , , , , , ,

Hi All,

Finally a Duploworld update again, it has been a loong wait, but now it is here and I am back updating regularly.

I have so many news to share and equally many new experiences to tell about, so lets get on with it.

It all started out with a trip to NYC and the city was amazing as always, I did not have much time for my self during the stay, but a good walk and a couple of hours at Grand Central Terminal I got, not sure about you guys, but to me Grand Central is simply one of the most amazing places in New York, it has a great visual impact I think. Photographically speaking it is a nightmare though, extremely poor lightlevels, combined with some very stron light falling through the windows, gives extremely high contrast and mixed lightsources, but enough tech talk.
Did I shoot any photos over there? well yes can anyone imagine me not doing so:D but they will follow later in the post...

Nahh OK, you get one already:
GC: Contrasts

When I returned to Copenhagen I was joined by Miss Duplo, We even got the chance to spend a couple of days off from work, not really enough, but much needed it was indeed, what and why they were spend on is not important right now, but lets just say we are planning a VERY important day for both of us;)

GC: The "Classic" view

My beloved sister went off for a 3 month stay in Melburne, Australia. I will mis her greatly, but what an adventure she has set off on, 3 months of school and loads of new impressions and experiences.
Even better is that she has opened up a blog to share her trip with all of us here in OC, find it at www.my.opera.com/ceelt/
Most exciting times for her I think.

GC: Walkway

What else to tell, ohh yes my watchlist, it is out of control, during today or tonight I will do a tour of all the blogs I have not visited for way too long, I cannot promise to read up on all your writings, but i will stop by all of you. after that I will clear the list. I do not mean to be rude or anything remotely like it, but it has grown out of control and I see no other way to get back in control of it.

GC: The reader

It is exciting times, I am returning to Greenland on Thursday and I am looking forward to spend some more time capturing the Greenlandic winter, snowboarding and much more... Gotta find time to work too:D
My Holga Project will be receiving an update tomorrow, there is a couple of missed days in it, Had a battery issue with the wireless transmitters, that was not easy to solve (darn proprietary batteries:grrr:bomb) and due to me being in either airport terminals or on flights, thus making it impossible to work on it. But all in all it is continuing and still fun.
Btw, there is a hidden story in this post, I just wonder if anyone notised;)

GC: Under the bridge?

Finally a big thank you to all of you guys still visiting and commenting, even though I have not been too good at visiting or updating lately... As said, my new year promise to myself is to put this blog back into life in full again and to stay on top of my watchlist:)

Thomas

Oups...First week back home

There´s something special about big railway stations in general, I think. All those people, all those goodbyes, all those hellos - all that love and life. Standing in the middle of so much humanity always gladdens my heart.

I am sure New York Grand Central is something special among specials. Judging from your photos, it sure is.

I must say I like your classic view of the place the most. The blurred individuals among the sharply depicted dittos really gives me this feeling of all things different, yet the same. Like people are.

For the whole set, DGP.

I'm glad you were able to photograph in Grand Central without being arrested as a security threat! It must be that you look so honest!cool

I hope you weren't harassed - did you have to get a "permit" to set up?

First of all Thank you for your kind compliments Allan:happy;

I share your passion for big railwaystations for exactly the same reason. Airports has a lot of these too, but du to the security restrictions emotions are displayed differently and harder to capture.

Grand Central is something special I think, the historical terminal building and the light is what makes it different I think.

A shot I liked a lot too and one I had to do when I had the chance.

Well Yooper, I had zero issues when shooting there.
A security guy joked with me a bit, but I was never questioned or given a second look. everybody around there seemed pretty comfortable with me.

I did not actually set up for the "classic view" shot I used a wide handrail and a front cap to make things work out the way I wanted.

I would not personally recommend to bring tripods or other support gear in there, you would most likely create a lot of disturbance in the passenger flow.

Thank you Bea, I am glad you liked the black and whites, beause I do too:)

Loved GC when I was there a few years back, especially entering the building. The outside does not give much away on what is waiting inside.

Thomas, I think it helps that you look like "a nice person"!

I am very glad to hear that you and Miss Duplo are actively planning "a very special day" - best wishes!

Nice photos Thomas. I've seen many hackneyed photographs from the same place, but you've got an original slant on it. I like the blur of the people walking by the man reading. That photo says a lot about modern society.

Hope your planning is on track. I have to say my planning was rather simplistic, but I got the same result in the end and didn't spend a fortune.

Best of luck!

Thank you Yooper, much appreciated compliment.
We are so much looking forward to that day.

Thank you PJ,
GC was a joy to work... appearently it shows in the photos, makes me glad to hear.

Well that day is about the feelings between two people not the settings in which they are made official. I think that should be the key in any planning big or small.

Thank you mickey J,
A joy to be back:happy:

And to have my sister here.
