Arctic wekend cruise - Day 1

, , , ,

Friday last week at 1800 hrs 12 people met the 3 man crwe of a lokal cruise ship.
The twelwe people were all determined on a weekend of perfect weather, high sun and dead silent waters.
Only surrounded by the huge fiord system that has Nuuk as the entrypoint to a somwhere around 12-15.000 km2 fiord area.

After loading up the gear and supplied, the good ship departed. on what can only be described as a perfect weather sail in the late evening sun. the time was spend enjoing the stunning sceneries we passed along the way and playing on deck.
After setting up the camera for Mr. H and a two minute instruction, he managed something rare... a photo of the guy usually hiding behind the camera:)

As the evening progressed and the group got further into the fiords, they were presented for something amazing.
A soon to be melting waterfall. Due to the almost vertical falls and deep fiords, the crew got the ship real close. here is how it looked:
A, soon to be, waterfall

Geting deeper into the fiords the sun slowly travelled beneath the horizon, however as the weather was great and as close to free of wind as it get in greenland most of the 12 stayed on deck and enjoyed the sunset.
it was such a beautiful evening. one of the 12 played around with a camera and here is a portrait of another one of the 12:

Now during the long cruise towards the first destination for the 12, they past one beautiful scene only to find it surpassed by the next, for 12 people used to the rough and beautiful nature it was an unusual experience. however as the ship anchored up for the night and slowly turned in for the night, the elusive one with the camera had the evening lit mountainns in playback on the inside of his eyelids.

Destination for this friday night was a place called Qoornoq.
And Qoornoq is what Day two of this cruise story will be all about.

Whoa! A perfect example of DNP that last photo. The warm light is just perfect - particularly because of the juxtaposition to the obviously cold climate. Deep saturated colours and an off-centre composition makes it an enjoyable experience to look at.

Nice report overall, Thomas. Good read smile

wow... it reminds me the brazilian guy Amyr Klink who is called "the solitary sailor"...

He's always going to south and visiting the iced waters in there...

Seems you had a great trip Thomas! smile

antarctic antipodean... a very unusual way to word it:)

HenryAOTEAROAnz Thursday, May 15, 2008 1:23:37 AM

i meant I'm the antipodean basically in antarctic waters..smile
I live in Aotearoa New Zealand...sorry for the confusion.
All the best...smile

Hehe, odd I did not know that... I actually recall antipodean translated to "something located diametrically opposite" or something like that...
All the best to you too:)

LOVE the photo of you at the front of the boat D!

My fave part (apart from seeing how handsome you are, of course) is seeing the shadow of the person taking the photo of you!

Very cool indeed smile
