A trivial update...

, , , , ,

Hi All,

Ohh and welcome to a Duploworld update on nothing special:)
I have been back home in Greenland for a good week.
Time has been spend getting back into work routines again, enjoying the mosquitoe plagued, but indeed wonderful, outdoor surroundings:)
Just a purple flower

Well as seen I have also been chasing the local flora quite a bit:) In fact each summer it seems that new species reveals themselves, while other seems to have disappeared.
Change in climate perhaps or just a sign of different flowers popping up and disappearing again during our short summer?
Well, I have no answer to that question and considering the fact that I have no clue as to what the flowers I shoot are named, well then it seems unlikely I would find the answer anyway:D
White flower thingy

Well set aside my trips to the mountains and flower hunting, I have actually been working for a change:D That and preparing for another trip to Copenhagen... Yeah another trip... Not because I am overly eager to go, but ohh well... it comes with the job I have...
If nothing else it means a couple of days in Copenhagen, a couple of meetings (OK a little more than a couple) and just a night or two to see family and friends. Nothing is all bad it seems:)
Purple flower thingys

Among the most interesting news though is that in just under 6 weeks, my brother will be comming to Nuuk on a 2 week vacation:happy: I already got quite a few things lined up for his visit. Anything from climbing the trademark of Nuuk (sermitsiak), to going way up north for some ice cap hiking.
I do not even know how to describe how much I am looking forward to his visit up here...

Well guess that is it for now, it is late and I still have a few things to do before heading off to bed.

Do take care you all:)

Thomas

Great photos and the titles up ..."thingys" lol

Thank you Andy:happy:
Well I am not a flower guy... a word adopted from our good mr. Hungry IIRC, but seems to cover my lack of knowledge and view towards flowers very well:D

You need Ally to identify those thingys for you! Nice pictures as always! bigsmile

Oh great heavens! How I wish I could create these jewels through the lens of my own camera (how I wish these flowers grew in my garden!)

Thomas - you bring us all so much joy! Thnak you for this up

Hello Thomas! Nice to hear you again!
No matter what flower names are and no matter you don't know them, it is still good to show them to us and is still amazing to see your shots! They're beautiful! And no need names to be contempled! smile
Thanks for sharing again! See ya! smile

Cool, I did not think you would find many flowers on Greenland

Sprogger McSprogsprogger Tuesday, July 8, 2008 12:46:52 AM

The purple flower thingys are the national flower of Greenland - Niviarsiaq (Chamaenerion latifolium; Broad-leafed Willow-herb). Or at least I think they are smile
And the white looks like some type of rhododendron

Whatever they are you got some beautiful shots of them up

It's not easy to identify wild flowers I've found, so I don't blame you for not knowing. It does help if you have a good photograph to work from as you do and in my case I usually just ask my father who seems to know what each and every plant or tree is called.

I know more about the things that move than the things that don't wink

Thank you dear loku:happy:

I am sure you can create equally beautiful flowers if not in picture then in words. Appreciate you stopping by.

Hi Bea,
Thanks for liking them:happy:
You are right I think, in photography unlike many other aspects of life looks does matter, even for flowers;)

starstarstarstarstarstarstarstarstarstarstarstarstar

Hi Asgeir,
You can, they are extremely small where I live, but in southern Greenland things are actually rather green during summer.

Thank you Richard:happy:
Both for liking my trivial flower shots and for digging up the names.
Appreciate boths.
Great to see you back in here again too:up:

I think you are right peter.
Identifying flowers must be real difficult, truth is that I do not really care what they are called, they are part of what makes nature such a beautiful place and that to me is what matters:)

Sprogger McSprogsprogger Friday, July 11, 2008 2:18:51 AM

No bother duplo bigsmile

Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo Friday, July 11, 2008 2:29:05 AM

duplo these shots are beautiful! when identifying flowers you use the same techniques when identifying most any subject, i.e.; birds, trees, insects, landscapes, rocks/gems . . . you review the surroundings of the subject, you note the unique features of the subject, you document the subject for further research (photograph, drawing, or verbal description), and you present the subject to a group of others.

i especially like the white flowers -- something about the blossoms bunched together in a group makes me very happy and relaxed! deborah.

Thank you Deborah, both for explaining how to identify flowers and for liking my photos.
I greatly appreciate both.
