Day 2 - The long hike
Sunday, August 3, 2008 4:28:15 PM
Hi All,
Well, Duploworld update on Day 2 of our weekend fun is here.
As the title says, it was indeed the day of the long hike and quite an adventurous one.
Again my apologies for making this post a bit picture heavy, but you know me... I like photos:D
Hiking through the lowlands
It was a long walk through the lowlands, flies and mosquitoes made it a hell on earth at times, add 26C and a sun burning merciless from above, the thing about the sun during summer, is that it goes very high on the sky making it almost impossible to find any shade or cover. but regardless the view was amazing. If you look closely you can just make out the boat in the bay, just to give you a feel of distance.
Starting uphill to the ice passage
soon after things started to really go uphill, our tiny group made the climb/walk toward the ice passage,
A fun trip up climbing/hiking huge rocks and fierce streams of melting water.
navigating through "tiny" icecubes
The next passage was an amazing path through huge blocks of ice, a stunningly beautiful walk that took my breath away.
Among icecubes...
above photo gives a feel of how it really looked while among these "tiny" icecubes. Just thinking of it makes me smile.
A view from the top
Shortly after, we made it to one of the peaks nearby and settled for a quick lunch while taking in the view.
From here on out we followed narrow and steep rein deer paths back towards the fiord.
Cooling down
When we reached the fiord and the fierce melting water river, first thing we did was to strip boots and socks to get our burning hot feets chilled in the freezing water. it may sound chilly, but it was amazing to get cooled down like that.
A rare selfportrait
was shot as well. So here you are, the shy guy usually hiding behind the camera, now in front of it.
Barbequed rein deer
Was on the menu that evening. Barbequed on large flat stones heated from below. That meal was such a treat.
It felt amazing sitting outdoors with the sounds of the fiord and a melting water river, eating this delicious meal and enjoy the sun slowly setting.
After Dinner we made a quick dash to the river again and sat down to enjoy the day turn into dusk.
River at dusk
All in all an amazing day. One of the best so far, but stay tuned for day 3, not to mention the new and photos from a full day hike just outside Nuuk that I did yesterday.
Thanks for reading and do take care:)

Thanks for the report. I really must get my ass to Greenland one day. I really must.

Well it is usually the other way around here too... today has been 5C and seriously dense fog all day long
Has weather cleared up?
