In walking and autumn heaven:)

, , ,

HI All,

Well quite a lot of updates from duploworld these days:)
But as my fiancée is not here I have a little more time for the blogging thingy:)
One has to look on the bright side of things right?

When I got up this morning weather were amazing, crisp blue sky and barely a wind blowing. I checked the weather forecast and well all day were promised to be like this.

I packed my camera and headed early to work, wanted to walk home, a slight detour that has become my favourite short route working day walk. a 5 kilometre route in relatively light terrain leading from work to home.
But also a route rich on what little evidence of autumn we have up here and rich on some amazing views as well:)

What I also decided was that today I would challenge my autumn pictures in a new way. So far I have not really been using my 43mm f/1,9 prime lens. Today I would pack the prime lens only.
The idea was: (a) to challenge my approach to photography so far, having no zoom at all and only a fixed focal lens seemed like a real challenge from a composing point of view. (b) to get the first real field test of this fast, reputedly razor sharp and crisp lens.

During my walk home a new aspect of photography revealed it self to me:idea: having only a single focal lens and no zoom available really put a totally new aspect to it. It made me see new perspectives and forcing me to use my own position as the sole instrument for composing the pictures.
The second eye opener were the difference in quality between a prime lens and a zoom lens. When I saw the pictures on screen back home I were blown away. They are sharp, saturated and crisp in a whole new way. All the sudden I understand why some people swear to prime lenses. They might be impractical, but the quality is something unique.
To give you an Idea of how big the difference is, I have uploaded today’s Nuuk Autumn Pictures (NAP #10-13) straight of the camera, no sharpening, no colour adjustments, nothing, only scaled down (640x427 pxl)

As much as quality of the prime lens impress me, then it is only suitable for light terrain, rough terrain and prime lenses, seems a little dangerous. But I am going to use it some more, because I adore the results from using it and the challenges when composing the pictures:)

I have begun planning the meetings for my November business trip to BWI and SLC, as much as I am looking forward to it, it is sure going to be some rather busy days, I am looking forward to it though:) Loots of loose ends to tie up right now, but it is common for a project in this stage, but also a bit stressful.
However I am full of energy and nothing seems to be able to ruin my mood at the moment, not exactly an autumn feeling but hey, would be kind of silly to let that ruin my mood:D

Do take care you all:)

Thomas
